I got the chance to handle the ACR and the Scar. I didn't think I'd like either one too much. The Scar just didn't do it for me, but the ACR felt really nice. It was very tempting. Really the only thing I don't like is the damn M203 notch in the barrel.

LOL--with all this insistence on 1/7 twist, I wonder how many people actually shoot bullet weights that require 1/7 stabilization... Most every shooter I know doesn't go above 69gr, if that. By far, they shoot XM193 55gr or M855 62gr at most, and that's pushing it.

And there are an awful lot of people who just don't shoot often enough to even care about barrel service life. All the people in SoCal that do shoot that often know each other pretty well, because we practically live at the range, usually shooting at the same matches and rifle/carbine classes.

The only people that should have a legitimate complaint about the ACR would be the Service Rifle guys who regularly shoot 77gr handloads and put thousands of rounds downrange in a year, but they wouldn't be allowed to shoot an ACR in the first place!

On top of all this, if you can afford to buy an ACR, you can afford replacement barrels--they're consumable parts, after all, just like the ammo that goes through them.

^ So are you saying the ACR is reasonably priced at $2,100?

Btw, I agree with your entire comment. 1:9 twist and non chrome lined barrels are fine for about 99% of all civilian AR shooters. Most folks buy target ammo and clean their guns at the end of the day anyway. Its the soldiers that get issued heavy weight ammo and dont always get a chance to clean their guns after shooting them.

I guess the only real argument about the ACR is that if I am going to spend $2,100...I want all the bells and whistles a high end AR has like 1:7 twist, chrome lined barrel, a barrel, BCG & bolt thats been magnetic particle inspected, high pressure tested and shot peened, and M4 feed ramps ect ect.

I have a couple colt 6920's I picked up for 1200each and a 6940 for $1450. I would buy those way before I paid $2100 for a unproven rifle. Don't get me wrong the ACR looks really cool but my colts are mil-spec and battle proven and almost half the price. That's an aimpoint, mount, sling sights, mags, light and ammo.
]If its not a COLT its a COPY!

Correct me if I'm wrong I did a quick search online and from what I read the minimum OAL of a semi-auto rifle is 30" in CA. I just checked bushmasters website and the OAL of the enhanced ACR folded is 33.75" and 36.75". A 3" difference I don't think this is with the buttstock actually folded this must be with the buttstock retracted not folded.

Like other people are saying I think I'll wait on this one for a few reasons hopefully they come out with a CA compliant locking device to prohibit the folding of the the stock one that could be removed if anyone ever leaves CA. I would also like a different twist 1/7 I might do my share of shooting thousands of rounds of surplus 55 and 62 grain ammo annually but all my defensive ammo is 75 grain which I shoot from time to time also.

For the record I'm not hating on anyone that already bought one I would like to buy one too but luckily I want other things for the time being and can stand to wait a bit.

The ACRs are cool for what they are but the price is too hard to justify for me. I do, however, have a black SCAR on the horizon
