Failure to eject problem casing problem

My OLL is having problems ejecting spent casings. The rifle fires but doesn't eject the spent casing and seems to try to reload the spent casing while trying to load a new round into the chamber. One more thing, sometimes it fires fine for a few rounds then it does it. The upper has had about 500 rounds through it and it's a Stag arms upper. What can be going wrong?

We were using the ammo discussed in this thread if that helps explain the problems.

Oh yeah the ammo I was using was "I.M.G. Fabrica de Municiones del Ejercito" Guatamalan 5.56 suplus.

I was also having trouble with my OLL and the I.M.G. ammo, but not nearly as many. I think part of JJ's problem is his magazine (he has a former 20 rounder that someone cut down to 10).

I think it may be more of an ejector problem than an ammo problem. But you should certainly go try it with some quality ammo like Federal's AE223 or XM193... etc...

But before that... you can try to use an empty case to debug the problem a little bit... chamber a spent case... and then manually try to eject it by pulling the charging handle all the way to the back and see if it eject the case...

If it does extract, then it is probably "short stroking"

If it doesn't, then you should start checking the "extractor"

Short stroking or extractor problems. Could be a few causes.

Often I have found that most FTE problems I have had with my AR's was when they got dry. A good shot of Super Lube always did the trick. I thought it was cheap ammo or old mags, but I was wrong.

So, is that your problem? Did you try my experiment?

Sometimes the cause is just "new rifle".... for now, just read up on that link...

The rifle did get dry and after I lubed it up nice and good it got a lot better but it was still failing to eject once and a while.

It ejected just fine, so its not the ejector. after reading Flux Capaciters artical I think it was the ammo I was using.
