Fake cans look cool! Kinda like fake boobs.....No purpose but they make me happy!

Oh and on some short barreled rifles when installed they can get the barrel length to the legal "Over All Limit"....

Probably most of the time "tacticool"... maybe a small percent of the time to make the length legal (if permanently attached).

Sometimes they're pinned and used to obey the 30" minimum length laws especially on bullpups and folders.

I hate them with a passion, anything fake on a working weapon just shouldn't belong on it. Thankgod you can now get the FN FS2000 with an over all length of 30 inches and not have to have that awful fake can on the front. Thats just the way i feel about fake anything it should'nt be there. Exceptions to the rule are fake boobs, no problem with them.

What is the purpose of fake cans?

Just part of the gheyity of tacticool; possibly a remnant of confusion between video games and real life.

Getting out to a 26" barrel / 30" OAL can be handled with a brake. Even a 10.5" barrel is workable with an XM177 clone brake.

Correction, no working silencers allowed. Fake cans are fine.

I say look at it this way...be glad you don't have Washington's laws on silencers. There you can own them but you can't use them. Fo realz.

why we have fake silencers! why do some people have fake peq-2 hitching a ride on your rail, when you dont even own night vision equipment. some of it is to make a statement, "Stick it to the man" others do it because its tactical-tacticool. until we can have real ones.. i say we keep spiting them.

at angeles yesterday some RO thought my spikes was a real suppressor. when i was asked if the can was real i stated jokingly "sir, if its cool and serves a valid function its not gonna be legal here." he just kind of chuckled "cool stuff. yep, not in CA!"
