Muzzle break on featureless AR?

I have tried searching for this but can not seem to find an easy answer.
What is the law regarding a featureless AR muzzle brake?
Can you have one?
Does it have to be welded on?

If you have a featureless build you must use a muzzle brake, Flash hiders can only be used on rifles with bullet buttons or registered assault weapons. The only reason a FH or MB would have to be welded on is to meet the 16' minimum barrel length requirement, My AR10 will have a fixed stock and a Monsterman grip and a muzzle brake and will not require a bullet button. The YHM Phantom looks like the FH but is offered in a brake as well, I have one and like it

You don't have to use a muzzle brake, you just cannot use a flash hider. Some people have the non-threaded target crowns and others just use a simple thread protector.

Very true, You can choose to run without and just uses a thread protector

My ACR is featureless. I added a Yankee Hill compensator/ muzzle brake.
I doesn't need to be pinned as long as your barrel is 16".

You can't have a flash hider in a featureless build.

I have a YH compensator, solar tactical grip and a fixed stock.

The ban states in the northeast have the welded-on requirement. It's not a requirement in CA. Legally you could run bare threads but as others have stated, better to go with a brake or a thread protector.

It would depend on which model was used. Since he posted he has the comp/brake, it would appear he has a legal configuration. YHM is pretty good about clearly indicating that their comp/brakes are NOT flash hiders. This is important because some mfgs advertise their brakes as having flash hiding characteristics which brings ambiguity/problems.
