PPT for Long Gun in CA? IntraFamily.

If i am selling/giving a long gun to a family member....do i need to do a PPT transfer or can i just let him have it?

Long guns aren't registered right? The ten day wait is basically a background check for a long gun.... and it just says long gun on the paperwork? or is it attached to a serial number?

IIRC you can go up and down the family ladder, if you will, such as your parents or grandparents giving a gun to you without going through an FFL, but I dont htink you are allowed to do that with your cousin, uncle, brother, sister, etc. I could be wrong about that last part though.
