What's that little garage door thingy on AR chambers?

It also keeps mud out of the bolt and chamber when you crawl through muddy rice paddies.
I love my LRB M14SA to death, but the uncovered bolt/chamber would probably not do too well if I crawled through mud with it.

good thing most of us dont show up at angeles hosing down the dirt with water, and crawling through the mud to the target!.

Is this a serious question? sorry but Ok now that I got that out of my system, that is the ejection port cover. Yes it is meant to keep dust out of the chamber areas. It will automatically pop open when you pull the charging handle.

If we can't ask here, then where? We're not all born with the information and I'd like to think I can ask really stupid questions where I truly do want an answer and not get laughed at.

You're correct. A dust/ejection port cover. When fired, the bolt pushes the cover open. Notice the groove in the bolt.

Is that what those are for? I've always wondered why I had to enlarge the hole in my uppers to get my Hot Wheels to drive though freely.

I think this is an awesome post which helps to show the diversity of the members here! I'm all for supporting your right to choose whether you own a firearm or not as long as, you support my right to choose as well. I'm curious, do you shoot at all?
