Ok so after reading that flow chart: Would one of the Atlantic Firearms AK pistols with a bullet button would be perfectly legal if used with a 10 round blocked magazine?

Why must it be a one round magazine in order to import to Cali as others have said?

It will have to come in with a fixed zero round sled and be transfered as a single shot target pistol. Once it is in your possession, you can do whatever you want to it as long as, you do not create a NFA item or a Ca AW with it. Well, if you get a NFA trust and a tax stamp for it, you could make it into an AOW.

            It's not that tough.
The laws aren't that much different than for rifles, except the list of "evil features" allowable is a bit shorter... you can't have a forward vertical grip on a pistol or it becomes an "evil" AOW.

In final configuration, a bullet button and 10rd magazine are good to go.
The main difference is that it has to be roster-exempt when transferred into your name... that's where the single-shot sled comes in.

Only place I saw one of these for less than 500-600 bucks was Atlantic and they won't ship here. Looks like if I want one in the future it would be cheaper to build one including the tools. What all is required of you build one?

Atlantic will ship California-legal guns to California.
They are a CGN supporting vendor.

Required to build one? Do you mean legally, or parts/tools?

Legally, the same as if you buy one. At the point the gun first becomes functional, it must be roster-exempt, meaning you have to build it with a single-shot sled. After manufacture is complete, it can then be modified into a semi-automatic configuration.

Parts/tools? You'll need a hydraulic press ($100), headspace gauge, riveting tool/jig, flat bending jig ($200+), basic parts kit ($200-$300), a receiver flat ($20), FCG ($20), spot welder ($100-$200), parkerizing tank and "juice". If you start with a standard parts kit, it's going to have a 16" barrel. You'll need to be able to cut the barrel to the desired length, as well as shorten the gas system.

Honestly, at $560 for a Draco from Riflegear:

it would be cheaper to simply buy it.

Just get a AMD65 kit, pistol trunion, flat, center support, rivets mag and maglock. Pistols do not require any US made parts so, that's really all you need. I would suggest a Tapco Double hook trigger, Redstar retainer plate and some different furniture but, you can always add that stuff later.

Anyway, you can find a AMD65 kit for $250, pistol trunion for $50ish (or make one), flat, center support and rivets for less than $50, mag for less than $20 and maglock for nothing (if you make one) to $40ish. So, for as little as $350, you can build your own. But, I'd plan on spending closer to $500.

Were you at P2K? Trust me, I have better things to do than to shoot anything illegal at a public range They are legal with a magazine lock and blocked off 10 round magazines.

That's where I purchased it from. They will ship it to a local gun dealer. You just have to find one that actually knows the laws and that they're legal in California.

                    Cheers

Oh yeah, and the thing is fun as hell to shoot. So much fun I'm going to buy more 10/20 mags for it at Parallax Tactical. A two point sling with a little forward pressure works great... it works well enough that you can stay in the black no sweat at 50 feet or 25 yards or whatever that P2K range is.

I haven't fired a AR pistol but I'd imagine it to be pretty damn fun too,.. ammo isn't as cheap though.

And you know what, it'd make a great home defense gun in any other state.. if you could drop the mag lock and use real magazines.. you could even pay the $200 tax stamp and stick a stock on it... but alas we live in California.

That's about right $350 and you can get yourself an AMD pistol. It's not too hard and it's pretty easy for a first build. It's cheaper because you don't have to worry about the 922r parts.
