Help me pick a new hunting rifle plz.

I have a lot of fun guns, but I am lacking a good solid hunting rifle. Something for pig and deer. Currently I am using an M1A and I think it is a bit much. I have tons of .308 so I am thinking of sticking with it but am considering 7mm mag and 300 wsm as well.

The main thing though is the rifle. I have been eyeballing the Browning BAR and the Remington 700. I have also really liked the sako A7 and the Tikka T3

I have not shot any of them but handling them I like the finnish ones the best, however the aftermarket goodies and possibilities of the remington makes it a contender. And the browning is right in the middle.

    So I guess:
    Browning BAR
    Remington 700
    Sako A7
    Tikka T3

which would you choose and why? Also feel free to suggest others. I would prefer to keep it under $1000 but for the perfect rifle I would spend alot more.

    Thanks!

Tikka T3 Hunter in 308, and you can share the ammo with your M1A.

My Tikka T3 is half MOA out of the box with FGMM.
      OPEN LISTINGS:
      - Noveske 300 BLK and CZ455 17HMR Barrels, Saiga 12 mags
      - Ammo: 38spl, 357mag, Slugs, Buckshots, Gameshots

Remington or Browning in 30-06...perfect all-around-round. You can shoot heavier bullets for bear or pigs, or lighter for deer or antelope. These are very common and you can find '06 ammo in just about any store that sells ammo.

Do you reload? If so, 7mm-08. Seems pretty cool. It will do everything a .308 will do with less drop and less recoil. There are very high BC bullets in 7mm. Im going with the 7mm-08 for my AR in progress.

I dont have one but lots of people like the Tikka rifles and IIRC they do make em in 7mm-08

If you have a bunch of guns and you want a dedicated hunting rig then you don't need a bunch of aftermarket add-on goodies.

Go to a gunshop and shoulder a bunch of different brands and models of rifles and see which one feels the best to you.

i own 2 BAR's, one safari grade 7 mag and a lightwieght stalker in .243. I cannot say how much i love them both.

the 7 mag has been ideal for pigs and deer at distances, and truly a humane quick kill. plus, i love the follow up possiblilities they provide.

also, its fun to ding the 400yd steel plate at my local shooting range 5 times in a row in about 5 seconds...

+1 for the Tikka T3 in .308. The bolt is so smooth and the rifle is extremely accurate out of the box. Plus it takes detachable mags and the trigger on it is fantastic.

Wait browning BAR like the WWII (Browning automatic rifle) or Bar Mark II?

I would say hunting with the WWII BAR would be awesome fun. Do that.

Look into Weatherby Vanguard SUB MOA models. Amazing specs from a great manufacturer.

Another vote for Weatherby and with your 1K budget you can almost get into the Mark V line. I have a Mark V synthetic in .30-06 and love it...light/accurate/durable/great action I can't say enough!!
