    Help w/ Mini SASS Barrel

    In need of some help/info.
I am in the process of trying to collect parts for a 18" SPRish setup.

    Problem:
I received a Mini SASS barrel from Midway and after researching it is looking like the only gas block is the DPMS one for about $100. For some reason they say the other .936 blocks do not fit. Does anyone have experience with this? If I do keep this setup will everything clear inside of a DD 12" lite rail?

Or do I just return it and get the WOA barrel I was set on at first? WIth the price of the gas block I am not saving any money with the DPMS and in fact will be almost exactly the same. Guess I just solved my own question? Thanks.

I know there are other companies that make a .936 gas block. JP Rifles has a railed block in .936, and I believe they also have a low profile one in that bore as well. Their stuff is great quality, and I would definitely recommend them.

On the other hand, I picked up a White Oak Armament 18" SPR Barrel from Rainier Arms, should arrive Monday , mostly because I wanted the smaller gas block seat.

Everyone here has said that WOA is great stuff, so you can't go wrong with them.

    Just my two cents.

Yeah there are a bunch of manufacturers that produce .936 blocks, problem is DPMS is saying only theirs will fit the barrel. I don't understand why and the tech wasn't very helpful when I called.
Probably going to return the DPMS and order a WOA, already started filling in the return slip. Serves me right for trying to save a few bucks when I should have gone for what most people are using (WOA). Oh well, live and learn.

I got a sass barrel and seems that all else with 0.936 will fit. DPMS jus meant it won't fit under their own make rail! Its a great barrel!

So I could use a low pro PRI? Or any other .936? What kinda rail are you using?

Also, if I were to use this barrel would the barrel nut that comes with a DD Lite Rail fit this barrel. I know that it says normal barrel nuts will not.

0.936" = 0.936" no matter who the manufacturer is

We carry the MI .936 low-profile for $39.99

I think what DPMS may be referring to is the height of the rail on their 308 receiver may be different than the height of an AR15 so that AR15 railed gas blocks may not properly align your sights with their receiver. With low-pro I don't see how you would have an issue, unless you are having clearance issues with a rail. Then again I don't have direct experience with this barrel so I could be spouting nonsense

I say go with the WOA barrel. Youll likely have a higher chance of success with the barrel accuracy-wise.

I was talking to a smith at the Cow Palace gun show, he was selling a DPMS upper with a SASS barrel and a PRI carbon handguard. And he quoted, you have to used DPMS SASS barrel nut which kind of limits selection of handguards and rails system that could be installed.

And with this in mind I will be sending this back tomorrow and ordering a WOA when I am credited back for the DPMS. Too much trouble when it could be so easy, should have done it this way before.

Nice looking barrel, and people have reported good things about accuracy, but just too much trouble and not really cheaper when you have to use special parts.

Oh well, hopefully Midway is easy to make returns to.

Thanks for the help guys. I couldn't find much info on this barrel so hopefully this thread will help someone else purchasing the DPMS.
