school me on ak-74 and ak -47

I have recently kind of got the bug to go and buy myself some ak style rifle but am completly new to this rifle and would like to know how everybody felt about the two different types, I only want it to have fun at the range but who knows.
I like the look of the bulgarian ak-74 but don't now anything about the round and I have two sks's and keeping with the same caliber would be nice but not really that important if it is a huge price difference in ammo .
or would I be able to have the all black look with the ak-74 muzzle brake in 7.62x39

If you are getting into AK's, you must eventually have a 5.45x39 Russian in your collection. It's a great round. It's cheap, doesn't have much recoil, and fun to shoot. The only problem will be shooting it at a public range. Most will not allow the round because it will attract a magnet. Something to think about before you get one. You can get an SGL-21 in 7.62x39. It's a Russian Saiga and looks almost identical to the AK 74.

wow thanks for the quick reponse,i did not realize that about the round not being allowed at the range , that is important to me, so is there any place you might be able to point me in the right direction looking to spend roughly 600 or so but wanting black furniture ?

I say get the AK-74. Much less recoil, pretty damn accurate, and just a smooth rifle to shoot. I havent shot the corrosive ammo yet but its cheap and I hear nothing but good things about it.

              go AK-74 or go home

The ads states chrome lined at the top. So yes it is.
