    first, welcome to calguns...

second, you may want to spend some time with the search function, as Saiga's are covered fairly well. I have no idea what you are talking about with regard to their 'origin', and suspect that you may have been the unwitting recipient of some grade-a fud.

third, to return to the topic at hand....

to the OP...box it up and send it to kel tec. they will fix/repair and send it back...no problems... like others have said...their service is pretty good, and they stand behind their product.

Seriously, I looked real hard at a Kel Tec I wanted one, maybe if they wrapped a sheet metal receiver with plastic but just plastic.....No way.
didnt you see mythbusters...they made a working cannon out of ductape!!! engineers at kel tec must have seen that episode.

this may have been a freak accident but whenever I picked up a su16 it felt kinda cheap. felt like I was cheating on my ar

If this was an isolated incident thats one thing but it's not. Go through this thread IIRC there is 2 others that had this same thing happen to thier guns also.

Do you know what kind of duct tape they used? If it was the old Polyken 557 UL rated crap then hell yeah it'll hold. I ripped my pants at work and put a strip of the 557 on either side of the rip and it held for 6 months.

To the Op, best of luck to you but I would get rid of that thing ASAP.

Thanks for everything. I will check the piston rod and get back to you.
Good thing its not my only rifle. The Mini and Saiga will get me by. Still building Ar and Ak

I just always pictured Kelly being my last resort rifle stuffed in my backpack.
Ready for whatever. It honestly did not impress me like I expected. Hope they will fix it, and then see what happens.

Will keep you guys up on what KT does.

Not trying to bash KT or offend anyone with this thread, my opinions are all based on my experience. Unfortunately, many have experienced the same. This shouldn't happen to anyone's rifle, as it is dangerous, and sucks.

How many AR's are out there compared to the number of SU16's?

If you would have bought a cheap POS this wouldn't have happened. There's a reason why it was "such a great deal".

what a great contribution to this thread and to the OP....thank you... and I'm sure you meant to say..."would not have".....

As for the keltec....sht happens. I've heard mostly good things about the keltec and I'm sure they will take care of you. Glad to see you weren't injured.

Thanks for posting this and hope to hear about how your experience goes wit Keltec on the return/repair.

Considering the amount of catastrophic failures there are out there on these SU16s, they sure have a lot of apologists......

Call a spade a spade...the SU16 is a cheap, almost disposable rifle - it isn't for serious shooters.
