Any rifle with hot enough ammo will blow as in that case. I have seen pictures of an M1 Garand that blew from using hot commercial ammo. That guy was lucky to have suffered no injuries, the wood just fragmented. Usually these types of failures have nothing to do with the rifle and just hot ammo. I'd like to hear what Kel-Tec says, usually these companies do investigate the causes.

In this case it did not sound like an ammo problem, but a SU-16 problem. I'd send it back for repair/replacement and then sell it. I was not impressed with mine and sold it after I built my first AR.

Mine did the same thing a few years back, I sent it to KT and they put all my parts into a new receiver and had it back to me pretty quick with no arguments. I don't care for their products any more but their warranty service in great.

First off, I bet anything your piston rod is loose. Make sure you check before you call K-T up for customer service, because if it is, it's probably a good idea to point it out as an additional problem, just in case they forget to check.

In any case, call up K-T when they are back open. Mail your rifle in. Wait about 3 weeks or so. Receive your rifle back fixed.

It's no more complicated than that.

What makes you say that? He didn't go into specifics. I'd like for the OP to keep us updated, here what Kel Tec does for him and see if they can tell what happend.

Happy to hear the ops ok. Pics will be interesting to see. Hopefully we can learn something from it. More details regarding ammo used and mechanical condition of keltec will be helpfull.

A rifle is more or less a controlled explosive device. Anything can go wrong with any system.

I'd love to see the results of the investigation, without making assumptions. There could be many causes of the failure. We won't learn much from the incident if we keep making assumptions, and even worst, we're spreading FUD.

I purchased one about a year ago. I took it to the range once, took it home, cleaned it, sold it, in that exact order.

I was attracted to the breakdown design and portability. When I took it apart to clean I realized it was a POS. Not to mention the sights and accuracy sucked too.

This is not FUD and just like shark said, I wasn't impressed.

                          Fix it and sell it.

No hot ammo here. I assume hot means reloads, wolf, or other cheap ammo.
Only clean brass, all federal 55g. The previous owner claimed about 1000 rounds. He claimed no hot ammo. I unfortunately only shot about 300 rounds, if not less.

The rifle was in good shape. It just broke.

I have an A model that is NIB and has not been shot yet - I see you did the hitch pin quick release thing too - I wonder if they will say that voids the warranty?

I was shooting a Glock when shooting a Glock wasn't cool.
