    AR 57 question

I was reading about the ar 57 upper.( it shoots the 5.7 round and the mag is on the top, it ejects the spent rounds through the open magwell ) has anybody used one and are they legal in CA.

Does the Raddlock need to be installed before AR 57 upper is shipped into CA?
Does the AR 57 need to go through a FFL, because the mag is on the top?

          No and No
The lower is the firearm, not the upper

            Nope, and nope.

The fcg or fire control group is in the lower so no need to have it converted before it arrives to your home. However before you mount the lower and upper together you must have it locked unless it is going on a featureless build

Do the spent rounds do any damage to the magwell or the mag release?

Hmm, they do make a fake mag that acts as a brass catcher, but I do not think it will affect the magwell or mag catch at all. When I was using a buddies PS90 it seemed to eject straight down, so I don't know if it does the same on a AR platform. Should not hurt it regardless,

                  Not at all.

Hollow out a magazine, and cut off the feed lips to get a really handy brass catcher too!

The brass will mark up the mag well. If you're OCD about this use a mag body as a catcher.

Yes, they are available. Yes, they work well.

I bought one and used in on an OLL featureless build by unscrewing the flash supp. that comes with it. I was overall very happy with it. I sold it about 6 mos ago to fund another project though. Easy come, easy go. One of the nice things about this upper is that the 5.7 round has remained relatively very stable in price when compared to 223 ammo.
