Places to shoot OLL in San Diego

    Guys:

I have been having so much fun making my OLL's that I forgot to ask the basic of question: where, besides the desert, can I shoot my OLL and not get harassed by range staff? A friend of mine lives near Camp Pendalton, and there is a range off the 76 that allows .223 rifles to be shot. Also, there is American Shooting Center off of the Ruffin Road and Range 2000 near my ex-girlfreinds house in El Cajon/Rancho San Diego. Are any of these ranges safe to shoot? I would appreciate the imput

the range off of 76 is Iron Sights. I haven't brought my OLL there yet, but I hear they are cool with them.

Have you thought of BLM land? Are you near Ramona? Google Orosco Ridge or click here http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/re...oscoinfo.shtml.

It's BLM land so you need to purchase an adveture pass ($5) I think you can buy them at big 5. Then you to get the gate combination. The phone # for the Combination is on the site.

      From personal experiences,

      Ranges:
      Iron-sight is cool with them.
American shooting center is cool with them.
Project 2000 is cool with them.
      Don't know about magnolia.
Discount gun mart is NOT. (they only got a 15yds range, duh!)
I haven't try SDPD range yet (lol, this would be the ultimate "i dare you to try" place...)

      Private Gun Clubs:
      Rainbow is cool.
      Lemon grove is cool.
Southby rod and gun is cool.
Escondido fish and game is cool.

      Free for all places:
Orosco Ridge sucks, the drive up sucks.
Jacumba sucks, long drive, and dirty.
Further out in the desert is cool, but u just have to make sure where you shoot is OK.

Project 2000 has my vote, I have taken my OLL there with no questions asked. American shooting center is ok but there way to expensive IMO.

ASC is $15 range fee. (flat)

Project 2000 is $14 range fee. (Just 1 hr tho, then $6 per hr more)

How can ASC be "way too expensive" as compare to P2k?

For me p2k is further than ASC, but they've got the 100yds. ASC only have 25yds.

Actually, I like Iron-sight, just cuz they open till late (10pm!!) So I can go wk-days' night.

For the wkends, I just go to private club ranges.

I stepped in there a couple days ago with a friend who had lost his range safty card, the range master said it would cost $15 for a replacement or $27 for a new saftycard. I didn't hear him say that but it is what my friend told me and I know they really jack up the price of ammo there.

                You can shoot at Dulzura

The rifle and pistol range at dulzura will let you shoot. It's 20.00 or 60.00 for the whole year. Check it out. You can get the address and directions in the compitition forum. Under 2nd Sunday Match by gunsrruss. You can't miss it. Don't confuse those guys, don't say anything to them about your OLL they might not know anything about it and then get confused. If you know what I mean.

Dulzura is no stranger to military-style firearms, I've shot military-style rifle matches there in the early 90's. ARs, AKs, FALs, etc. The winners in each category got to shoot mags through Class III weaponry courtesy of one of the few Class III FFLs in CA, Tim LaFrance of LaFrance specialties.

I shot some full-auto bursts through a Beretta M93R, HK MP5SD and IMI UZI. Good times.

ya i love going to cleveland national forest to go shooting(in romona), i havent gotten any crap from anyone there and theres tons of spots to go shooting. the only crappy part is you really need a truck or something like that to get up to the spots but i would recommend checking the place out. just go buy an adventure pass at turners to go shooting for a day. heres the link http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/re...ng/index.shtml

oh and my buddies go out to hucumba (er however you spell it) to go shooting too.. i havent been there yet myself but i wouldnt doubt its a good place to go too.

i think those guys at american shooting center are dicks IMO.

                      hmmmmmm.... I m puzzled....

ASC gives you a laminated card and P2K gives you a small business sized card that says you completed their safety test. Test was common sense. I don't remember taking a test at ASC though. Just filled out a form and they gave me card. I don't mind the trip out to Ramona or Jacumba, it's just the amount of dirt/dust that ends of flying around and getting on your guns. I'm OCD and find myself constantly wiping down my guns.
