    Which precision rifle to choose?

Ok I could use your input here. I have been looking at buying a precision rifle lately and thanks to the precision pic thread earlier I may want 2 now! Anyways I have been looking at Tactical Precision, GAP, AI and IBA. Iron Brigade is just to expensive for me right now so I have narrowed it down to tactical, gap and ai. A lot of people seem to buy from GAP and their prices look reasonable. Tactical sent me some quotes and they don't look that bad. Which do you prefer, GAP or Tactical? And why? I have provided links to what I have been looking at.
    Tactical Precision M40
    GAP crusader 308
    Accuracy International AWP

I am looking at using the rifle for target and competition up to 1000yds.

I own a GAP, so you already know my answer, however, I would not hesitate to get the AWP if I wanted an out of the box solution. In fact that would be my first choice in a factory gun. No experience with Tactical Precision, so I can't comment on their rifles.

If you want to deal with someone here in Kali, give either R&D Precision (Glendora) or Norcal Precision (Bay area) a try. Randy at R&D is very competitively price and does quality work.

        The AWP gets my vote.

Another VOTE for R&D Precision. www.rdprecision.net located in So.Cal

          midnitereaper,

I'll agree with "Mute" on his recommendation for Randy @ R&D Precision.
I have a custom AICS 1.5 M700 .308 SA built by R&D Precision that shots lights out, one ragged hole as long as I do my part.
Could go on for days about the TOP NOTCH quality of R&D Precision's work. Randy, known as "HateCA" on other boards, Customer Service is Awesome, Randy is very easy to deal with & will build a "custom" rifle to your personal needs/wants w/ what "works". Tons/Decade(S) of experience working on various Precision Long Rifles - along with his specialty of Remington M700 action platforms.

Here are some pics of my R&D Precision rig:

JMHO - The Remington build M24 is nice, but there are better options out there for a lot less $$$. They mark the crap out of them to Uncle Sam. Get what "YOU" want built to "YOUR" wants/needs.

            Have a great one,

Good luck even finding a real Remington M24... I'd go for the GA Precision myself.

I'd worry about the Norcal Precision flash hider... it's too similar to a sound suppressor, even though they claim it doesn't reduce the rapport, they have not submitted it to the ATF for classification, which would worry me.

                Midnitereaper,

I'm just hazarding a guess that you're reasonably new to precision and at longer ranges, etc.

You don't have to learn/practice on a Steinway; a Baldwin will serve just fine.
Don't get more rifle than skill...

Save the money for match ammo and/or equipment for quality handloads.

Get a Remington PSS, an FN Police, or a Ruger M77T with a cleaned-up trigger, and a quality scope, rings/mount. Shoot the hell out of it.

Save the price differential for quality ammo.

I wish I could have said it better than that, but I can't. Very sound advice.

A remington LTR in 308 is also a great way to go. You can get the rifle and 1000 rounds of SA surplus to practice with for less than a grand. If you ever shoot the barrel out or decide you are shooting well enough to warrant spending a grand for the extra 1/2 moa accuracy, you can send to to GAP or RD Precision for a rebuild.

Actually, it's more money for less of a gain than that.

Most .308 LTRs will shoot about 1/2 MOA average. This is not guaranteed and finding a more accurate one is 'luck of the draw'. You could very well get one that is a one hole shooter.

Most of these custom $2500-4000 rifles (Without optics) are only guaranteed for 1/2-3/8 MOA. The LTR without optics is around $850-$900 out the door depending on where you buy it.
