      Sweet replies guys, thanks!

I forgot all about the SBR thing. What's the federal OAL?

I can have FA??? Really? What's the deal on that? (ETA: thanks Calishnikov for the clarification. I knew there had to be some sort of license for the FA. Didn't know about a license for suppressors though).

Mr. Gumble: Thanks for the list. I thought for some reason that getting the MSAR past the OAL requirement was difficult for CA, that's why I listed it. That and a buddy insisted it's the bees knees.

I know this is the centerfire forum, but since it came up: if I get an off-roster handgun in AZ, can I bring it back into CA with me if/when I move back? Most likely any rifles I get here will be left in AZ (especially if there's a legal requirement to do so) but handguns take up much less space to transport back and forth. So long as I leave the full-cap mags here can I take a non-rostered handgun back into CA? (I'm sure this has been asked on CG countless times but why not add it to the thread).

Back to centerfire rifles: to narrow it down, by three favorite calibers so far have been .308, .45, and 9mm. 5.56 is OK for plinking (great "fun gun" round).

An AR15 in SBR format and a good quality suppressor.

Not a rifle, but I'd really love to have a collection of WWII SMG's to go with my service rifles . A Thompson, PPSH, An MP-40 and a Sten would do nicely. That way all four major powers in the European theater are represented (I don't have any Japanese weapons yet...)

Even if they were legally obtainable, I'm pretty sure the cost would be beyond-prohibitive for me anyway . But I can dream.

Actually, you only need a Class 3 SOT if you want to sell that stuff. Buying it requires an application process with BATFE and a tax stamp, not a license.

There is actually no such thing as a "Class 3 weapon," only a Class 3 dealer. But that is a very common point of confusion.

I was definitely thinking about an SBR in 9mm, whether or not it's an AR. I think the suppressor thing sounds like too much of a hassle though, what with having to apply to the BATFE and such.

if you're going to SBR a rifle, might as well get a suppressor too.
