It seems that for $99, it is hard to lose on a 91/30 from Big 5, but I haven't looked at them. How are these doing for those of you who bought them? Anything to look for?

Just check for overall condition, especially the barrel. And make sure the bolt matches. There are still a lot of them in excellent refinished condition so no need to settle for a dog. Don't be afraid to walk away if the rifle doesn't "grab you."
A mosin always gets packed when I am going to a BLM shoot.
BTW, if you don't want it to ding up your other guns in the safe, use a gun sock."All bad precedents began as justifiable measures." Julius CaesarComment

If you don't have a C&R FFL, then I think you're crazy to not pick one up. If you have a C&R, you have no excuse to not order one online.
For ~$250 or less, you can have a rifle & a ton of ammo. If plinking with a .22 doesn't do it for you, I don't think there is a cheaper way to enjoy shooting.
If the one on display doesn't suit your fancy, ask for one from the back.
Please note that others have used this screen name on non-gun related sites, and I am not related to them in any way.Comment

I was at big 5 today, a man and his son was looking at a 91/30. I own 5 Mosin's. I told him this was one of the best I have seen. I also asked the clerk what comes with it. Sling, bayonet, tool and ammo case. 99 bucks plus tax and fee's. Still not bad. I gave him some sites to look at on-line, explained corrosive ammo to him and about cleaning the weapon. When my son and I left, they were doing the paper work. Most of the people that don't like Mosin Nagant rifle's and carbine's, don't even own one.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

Not to many reliable bolt action rifles in the market for 80 dollars, so buy one. As a comparison the price of an iphone is about 3 to 4 times more. This like the 10/22 ruger should be in everyone's collection."Legitimate use of violence can only be that which is required in self-defense." Ron Paul

I agree about the C&R... but I haven't gotten around to buying a brace of Mosins yet.
Why pay $99+TAX+$25 DROS when you can pay $30 for a C&R and buy them for $79+shipping online?Play it Forward Thread: Share with your Fellow Calgunners by Giving Something for FREE and Take Something you Need for FREE!

i got one from big 5 several years ago, the bore looked fine, no major problems with the rifle, it seemed. it could not hit paper at 50yd. it was ridiculous. ill never buy another one. there's still a bad taste associated with them for me.Comment
