    ACS PROBLEM..

    Anyone else have an issue?

I was messing around with a Magpul ACS that I have laying around, unmounted and decided to slide it onto the Buffer tube I bought for it.

The instructions say use the provided dummy rounds to lift the locking mechanism high enough to clear the tube and lock into place.

Now, is it just me? But the dummy rounds are plastic and of course ended up breaking the tip off...

    Anyone else have this problem????

I was planning on getting rid of the ACS but now I'll be 1 of 3 provided dummy rounds short.....DAMN!!!

I found the trick was to depress the release and that will lift up the mechanism, the slide the tip of the dummy round in and use it. To be honest a small screwdriver works better.

I bent one of my dummy rounds pretty good. I ended up using a small screwdriver... got it on within 3 seconds using the screwdriver. Maybe i wasn't using the dummy round tool correctly but i don't think using a plastic .223 round as a tool was all that great of an idea on magpuls part.

This is what I did, worked ok. Then I threw the dummy round I used into my range bag. Presto, Magpul dedicated bullet button tool!

Were there any problems with the stock itself? If not you should change your title to "Dummy Bullet Problem" haha

Good point. I suppose the Title can cause a problem...

No, no problem with the stock itself. Great stock, just like my UBR's better...nevertheless it is just a DUMMY round problem...

I'd bet that Magpul would toss a free dummy round in the mail for you if you asked nicely.

Hmmm.... interesting. Any opinion as to how it compares against the SOPMOD?

I have very little experience with the SOPMOD to give a opinion in comparison...

                            I agree with the above.

the directions could have been a little clearer.

I'd say it's a good competitor to the SOPMOD. Even with the friction lock the ACS isn't as tight as the SOPMOD, but to me stock/buffer tube tightness means nill. In my opinion the SOPMOD has a better butt stock pad, ACS is probably better off with a magpul enhanced pad on it. New SOPMOD's have the QD attachment point on them, ACS doesn't include it. The thing that makes the ACS better than the SOPMOD is the compartment set up. The compartment on the SOPMOD can only be accessed by removing the stock completely, the ACS can be accessed easily with it installed on the firearm.
