The Cops in that shootout were out gunned. It was decided we should have rifles. All we had at the time were 9mm pistols, and 870's. SWAT had M16's. Military gave us a bunch of M16's. Chief at the time didn't want Patrol Officers having M16's. So the PC9 was a compromise. Maybe they didn't want us having a rifle caliber long gun. That would be my best guess. AR15's would later be approved.

Thank you for posting velocity and ME results, I use some of this ammo in mine and was too lazy to do it myself. Good to know what 16" barrel is capable of.Comment

The PCC is a ton of fun. I added a magpul stock that was a great upgrade, feels easier to shoot and drops some weight with the added benefit of a tighter breakdown package.
I really appreciate the PCC poi staying rather consistent between different ammo to around 50 yds, by 100yds and futher the velocity changes comes into play much more. It is solid for hits out to 200yds offhand, but it gets tricky in windy conditions.Comment

Mine shoots everything standard velocity minute of clay pigeon basically the same POI/POA at 50 to 75 yards. With it sighted dad on at 75 with Blazer brass 115s, it is dead on at 100 yards with the hot 9BPLE 115+P+.Comment

Good looking rifle... I like that better than the current PC carbine.
Its nice to occasionally see a LEO cruiser have a shotgun and AR mounted on board. I've seen the CHP bikes with the AR locked in. I also recall in the news a shooting in the cupertino CA hills where there was a pic of a Santa Clara Sheriff Deputy with a really short barrel AR pistol. Pic was in the merc.Comment

My PC9 stayed home when AR15's were authorized. We could once again "buy our own" get it. Although the Department did actually buy some PC9's, 8 or 10 per duty station I believe.
Department bought no AR15's. So I bought one and went through the class. Department policy stated at that time, these were not to be used as entry weapons, no optics, fixed stock, rifle or carbine, and 20 round mag only.
Oh and Mini 14's were also authorized. Couple of guys in my Patrol Rife Class were sporting Mini14's. They went through with zero issues. Only problem child was a DPMS AR.
Now you see AR's with optics, 30 round mags, carbines with adjustable stocks, and mounted on Motors. Now I want to see an AR mounted on a Harley. Im stopping to get a picture.Comment

At the PD I worked at in the Seattle area throughout the 1980s, we carried Model 59 Smith & Wesson 9mms. I was also a rangemaster, training officer, and equipment evaluator. We looked at using the Marlin Camp 9 as a patrol carbine. We thoroughly wrung it out. It was a great little weapon, handy and accurate. The only downside was it was a pain to break down and clean. It was like a Ruger 10-22 with a hard on.
It still had a chance, until the chief decided we would switch to S&W 439s to accommodate the women officers smaller hands (10% of the officers). It was a giant step backwards.... Like making everyone wear the same size underwear, which was too small for 90% of the people.
It was there that I fired one of the first Glock 17s in the country, around 1982. We (the training officers and rangemasters) loved it. The chief vetoed it. He thought it was a passing fad! He was an old IPSC shooter, and beklieved firearms should be wood and steel, as God had intended! It was also there where I fired a pre-production sample of the S&W 469 12+1. compact 9mm. That was true love at first sight for me. We wanted them for detectives and plain clothes, but switched to 439s that killed that idea too. I bought one for myself through the S&W LE rep, as soon as they became available. In the 40 years since, I have almost always had a 469, 669, or 6906. I still have a 6909.Last edited by imarangemaster; 12-11-2023, 9:36 AM.Comment

I also keep my pcc as a defense weapon. In the middle of the night, accuracy over a pistol would be the reason i use it.
mine has a red dot on a riser so i can cowitness using the iron sights too. it's heavy indeed or else i'd add a weapon light too.Comment

I really dig my Ruger PCC, it's much more accurate than i anticipated and holds zero after breakdown. I run it with a Holosun micro-dot, Streamlight TRL, and use Glock mags. I've used a 12 gauge as my secondary home defense firearm since the 90's, last year I switched to the PCC. My main reason for the switch was that my wife and daughter found it easier to shoot and were more effective with it. Mag capacity and compatibility with our Glocks is also a plus.Comment
