With a 10.5 barrel on a 223/5.56 the best muzzle device is 1000 rounds shot without hearing protection. After that you won't even flinch when you squeeze off a few rounds. As a bonus, your car or truck will also seem much quieter and barking dogs won't bother you at all.

Depending on your beliefs, the other benefit is that you don't have to wait until Sunday for the bells to ring.

Seriously though, a bloop tube would help but that takes away the benefit of having a 10.5 inch barrel on a 223/5.5 which is?

There is a device called a Bloop Tube. It is a steel tube attached to the front of the barrel. It muzzles the sound of the shot. Smallbore shooters use it to extend the sight radius on their rifles, and one of the outcomes is it muzzles the noise of the shot. These are not mass-produced and sold. Usually you have to contact someone to make it for your specific barrel.

I use several brands of linear compensators here. The old Levang is still the best one. It has 6 independent small chambers that divides up the gas pressures. Noise/blast to the shooter is greatly reduced.

I also have one on my AR-22. I can shoot that rifle outdoors with no ear protection needed, it's that good.

That Levang looks very similar to the Kaw Valley linear I’m using. I wonder if there is a difference.

Levang is likely an older design. I bought some back around 2008/9 IIRC. The item now shows as discontinued at midway.
Agree they look vey similar. Levang was pretty cheap years ago.

Just asking. I’m in the middle of a featureless build (16” mid-length). I’ve had good results with a Surefire Pro Comp and the times I’ve shot indoors never had any negative feedback from neighbors at indoor ranges. I’m thinking about just using a thread protector now, saving the $70.00, and waiting to see how things shake out in the courts. What do you you folks think?
