I bought a DDM4 before the DDXV came about. If I had to do it over again, I would have got the DDXV and put a shorter lighter DD rail on it.

Hmm but the more I think about it... no... I like the DDM4 better. The rail system is well thought out and the sling connection point are as well.

You can use a more forward hold (as you should), you can mount a light on top (as you should).

Slightly OT, but why would you choose a more forward hold on a rifle? I always feel more stable when my supporting hand is as close to the receiver as possible, and when my supporting elbow is as close to my body as possible.

Just curious why you would go this way, and what advantages it has.

The difference in price is $400, $1549 vs $1149

The DD Omega X 12 rail is worth +$300 and the Magpul MOE is worth +$50 and the VFG is worth +$50

The DD M4 says its comes with a case "Custom Daniel Defense Full-Latch 30ft Impact Plastic Case " so that is +$50 if you need cases....

overall its a wash....all depends in you like the stuff on the M4 or are going to take it all off and customize some more

I for one don't buy complete rifles as I tweak almost everything....so only stripped lowers for me...

I'm not uclaplinker, but do practice a more forward support hand hold. I find that this helps with up close target transitioning and stabilization. The rifle is just easier to drive for fast follow-up shots and target transitions for me.

up to a certain point, the forward grip increases stability b/c you are supporting the weight of the front end under your forward hand

the closer your two hands are together, the smaller the pivot axis you are creating, thus small movements in your hands translate into larger movements of the end of the barrel

when your 2nd hand is farther up, it creates a more stable shot as less lever effect causes less movement in the barrel end....of course this is up to a point as having the VFG too far out will compromise handling etc....

I don't think i've seen anyone running a VFG in front past the rail on a carbine or mid length system....~8-9 inches from reciever, the DD M4 rail that goes past the FSB is mainly for mounting lights or other accessories ahead of your VFG....

of course its all personal preference, run whatever setup you are more comfortable with and shoot better with.....

Thanks. I was looking at RG's website under upper assemblies and didn't see the X5.

It's probably under "Rifles", since it's not an upper

I love my DDM4, I have a bunch of rounds through it 2.5K. It has got alot of attention from the range masters at Angeles(all good) This is my first AR-15 type rifle, but some of these guys seem to know more than me.

First range master I talked too, he came over to check for steel(never got around to it) we talked for some time about AR related stuff. He fired it after I suggested he try it out...his comments, feels lighter than it looks, very well balanced for shooting off hand, looks very well built, feels really solid, am warming up to the front of sight rail(light options)

Does it run a mid length or carbine gas system?
