What about this new Flash Forward thing from Shockwave? The description doesn't mention anything about "hiding" flash, just "redirecting" it.

That Surefire Warden is not a muzzle device. It goes on top of your muzzle device. Much like a suppressor (what Hollywood calls a silencer) would. So not gonna work for you. You can still have it if you add a compatible Surefire break, or go non-featureless and use a compatible Surefire hider. But it is a separate animal entirely.

Most common alternative to a flash hider is a Muzzle Break. They are loud, which is annoying, but they offer stabilization by reducing muzzle flip. You just need to be careful that is actually a break and not a hider.

I'm thinking of putting this one on a .308 M&P10. The Rugged 3 Port Break.


All of this, including the idea of a featureless rifle in the first place, is all "interpretation" of the law. But it's been in practice for over a decade.

I really like these "A2 Style" muzzle brakes. They are just like the A2 cage but with a closed front so they are a brake and not a flash hider. Keeps the look. Brakes are fine if you're shooting alone, but they add weight and blast people next to you if you're with other people.

I have the AIM on a 16", I would not use that indoors. It sends tons of flash straight up into your field of view, worse than no device at all. Not really an issue outdoors

I would go with the VG6 Gamma + Cage Device
Gamma is on sale right now from Aero direct, and the cage device is on sale @brownells. You can get both for less than the cost of a surefire brake (the surefire brake is amazing, hard to beat for performance, but it won't make you any friends on the firing line)

Yep I been using a A2 Muzzle Brake on my featureless rifle for years now. Does not have the same side concussion and blast as a traditional muzzle brake.
EGW Gun Works, expensive but solid high quality.

I opine that it is 100% a flash hider and shouldn't go on a featureless build, and that you didn't read the OP...

Like some have mentioned... it is clear as mud.
Some CA DOJ definitions are more straight forward, but the definition flash suppressor is vague and not very defined.

I bought a few of these for YHM comps for some builds because they are inexpensive, YHM makes good stuff and they specifically say, "Does not reduce the Flash signature of the firearm."
