I have 3 featureless Carbines and an AR. I don't shoot the AR very much.

Guns like Mini 14's, or Kel Tec SU16's offer the same firepower in a benign platform that doesn't look scary to the Commies.

Then there is my Fight-Lite SCR which uses a conventional AR upper assembly with a featureless lower.

All these guns operate as originally intended and there are no downsides to contend with.

In my opinion these are all much better options than a bastardized AR.

I chose mag locked for storage only.
        Freedom state for training.
1 min to switch between the 2.

its a personal preference. I have maglocked rifles, featureless rifles, and RAW.

Look into a Fightlite scr featureless build. Especially if you also are used to an 870/1100/11-87 platform. Cross training between carbine and shotgun is awesome.

This is such a tired myth at this point. Yes, there were some maglock mechanisms that prevented normal malfunction clearing - and you should not buy those!

However, if you purchase a modern quality maglock (like an ARMaglock), malfunction clearing is just a non-issue. Period. No If's, And's or But's... it just works like you would expect it to without a maglock device.

With an ARMaglock + Kingpin combo, the only difference between a normal mag release and your "featured" gun is whether or not you wanna have to move your thumb a little bit while dropping you mags. If you're OK moving your thumb 1/8" to push the button while you release the mag (in reality this becomes one motion, essentially squeezing the pistol-grip while pushing the mag release all at once), then you get to have all the other goodies hanging off your rifle. Otherwise, you can enjoy plastic space ray-gun looking stocks etc, but get to drop your mags the way Stoner intended.

                  Your call...

                    Well...

If you have standard capacity magazines...

                    Featureless, FTW.

i have both.. not happy with either...

though i had more issues with the fixed mag on my ar10 (ar-10b pattern) on top of i don't want to ground off the metal follower so the bolt goes forward after the last round. my workaround of using a dummy round/snapcap for the last round didn't work as well (i forgot once and boy, what a pita finagling separating the upper/lower to get the bolt to move forward. so there goes the whole problem with clearing malfunction.

I would like to see that with a double feed, just lock the bolt back haha.

                        I prefer the other.

Featureless. I can go from featureless to OEM in 5 minutes and back again. Not that I ever would but I could if you get my drift.

Just move my right hand forward and press the mag release button. Ok I guess that means I have to take my hand off the stock and that's not tactical, but good thing my day job isn't tactical.

I've never had to use any of those advanced thingamajiggys to fine tune anything, my ARs just work. I guess they're not advanced enough.

                                ^^^This.

The only reason to bastardize an AR15 is because you owned it before the bullet button guns were reclassified as assault weapons.

Fixed mag is stupid compared to featureless.

If I was wanting a semi-auto rifle now I'd look for a SU16CA, SCR, or mini14 in that order. AR mags rule so a gun that uses them is more valuable.

If those are too difficult to find or too expensive then consider the Ruger American Ranch Rifle (that takes AR15 mags). It's a bolt action but suck it up, it's better than a stick and unlike a semi-auto you won't be chasing the latest modifications every two years to keep it legal.

Sorry for the bad news but I'd rather be blunt about it than get your hopes up.
