featureless is better than fixed mag?

As beginner to AR-15, do we have any discussion on which option is better to have a California legal AR-15, featureless or fixed mag? Like to know pros and cons from both operation as well as self-build perspectives?

There are many threads on this exact debate.

It's a compromise, pick what's more important to you- features or releasing your magazine with your magazine release.

not much compromise. One you can remove the mag as intended the other if you have a malfunction good luck.....

Both options are not ideal but one is clearly the better pick.

If your running freedom mags you'd want featureless or AW to run them but the main factor i see with featureless is being able to drop the mag but if your looking at vertical foregrips and flash hiders and accessories then you would want a fixed mag. Depends really on what your looking for. So at the end of the day how do you want to setup your ar15.

Depends. There are arguments for both. I had a type 3 with my ar maglock and kingpin. Jusy locked the bolt back and popped the rear, dropped the mag no issues

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.

The only person who got the answer right so far. Well not the only person... but this is the right answer.

I agree 100%, but tried to remain objective for OP.

I can live with a fixed stock and muzzle device so featureless grip, Resurgent, works great for me. Perfect handling, control, and inexpensive. Clearing malfunction is normal. I had a fixed mag and it was a disaster at the range.

One you can revert back to a full functioning rifle with all accessories quickly, the other you can't.

Keep an eye on the AW bill at the Federal level. It names mag locks AND featureless from what I've read.

                              Both have merit.

When Bullet Buttons were still legal I preferred fixed mag. The convertible bullet button could become a regular mag release with the twist of an allen wrench. I haven't tried the new solution for fixed mags.

I don't mind featureless so long as the options are easily removable, and the rifle has everything you need already installed on it. That way when travelling out of state for a course, you just remove the grip sleeve and don't need to install anything to else (nothing you can forget at home).

Neither solution is pleasant or perfect. It is a work around. Making the best of a bad law.

I think that if we are going to be forced into registering them on a federal level, which is likely, I'd rather have a featureless setup than the new maglock setup. If national registration works anything like the CA registration you'll be stuck with those features and not be able to remove them despite being registered as an assault weapon. They have you submit pics of what you have. So now you end up with multiple types/classes/styles of assault weapons. And they don't let you change what you have. Or so California lawmakers have insisted with the last ban. Frankly, I think it's horse ______. But I don't want to be the test case either.
