One important thing to remember is that once you start a brush moving never stop and reverse direction, that will bugger up the surface faster than anything. Make sure any brush going down a barrel is free to rotate. Anything you use to clean with should be harder than the crud but softer than the metal being cleaned.

I'd rather use twice as many softer brushes.

Sweets 7.62 in a plugged barrel used to work wonders, one brush push and then only patches. That worked miracles on M14s and PSG1s but maybe thats old fogey stuff these days.

Clearly, almost half the responses so far have no idea as to what brush the OP was discussing.

Never ever allow a steel brush to enter a rifle barrel chamber. Rifle barrels are soft and a steel brush will scratch the chamber. This still applies if the chamber is chromed.

Actually they did have a clue but expanded on the question because other people might appreciate the information. If someone is asking about stainless steel brushes in the chamber then it follows that they might not know about not using SS in the bore or avoiding damage by using brushes improperly. In any case, did it harm anyone?

Stainless steel AR chamber brush will not damage the bore when used properly.

Folks also need to be aware their are different types of stainless steel bore brush, like tornado brushes

I hate those chamber brushes, the steel bristles are so stiff it's difficult to actually get them to fully brush the lugs. I have more success with a plastic chamber brush. Though I suppose if you shoot your gun un-lubed and don't clean a long time the carbon would be caked on harder and need more scrub power than the plastic gives.

If there was a issue with chamber damage they wouldnt be standard issue. Been running them for years. The steel on the brush is way softer then the steel used for the chamber.
