Cover or other protection for your AR's brass deflector?

Anyone have a safe queen that they have taken steps towards protecting the brass deflector from getting banged up too much from doing its job? Especially if shooting cheap steel cased ammo.

I would be curious if anyone has tried putting a piece of gaffer's or electrical tape or maybe brushed on some plati-dip over the pad of the deflector. Any risk of the adhesive actually doing damage to the upper's finish?

Put the rifle in cryogenic stasis or store in bubble wrap. Do NOT shoot it. You might wear the internals. Ensure that you wear gloves when handling.

If you're really that worried about this platinum plated AR, electrical tape would work...it isn't going to damage the platinum playing or anodized aluminum.

        Some people use velcro tape.

If there would exist such a Gucci rifle that any nik or ding would so upset the owner that they cover up deflector parts with more protective parts I would question their decision to shoot cheap @$$ steel cased ammo from said rifle.

I'd use a cheap PSA upper if I was worried. Besides, shooting cheap steel cased ammo doesn't show the potential of your safe queen anyway.

If you shoot it enough, the deflector will become coated in tiny brass flakes and will create a nice shield. That brass shield will protect the deflector. Otherwise I've seen someone put some electrical tape over it.

I would think that if a brass or steel case can nik through hard coat anodizing or cerakote that electrical tape would not be much protection. Never tried it though.

I’m curious what AR exists that could be given safe queen status.

Does Gucci mall ninja status qualify?

Not a good question for this crowd. An AR15 "safe queen" through which is fired "cheap steel cased ammo"? A big contradiction.

However, as mentioned, some soft material with an adhesive backing that can be cut to shape with scissors. Velcro pile. That would do the job.

No AR is safe queen worthy.

OP, curious what rifle or brands you are talking about? Even some of the more expensive makers are not necessarily safe queens, they're expensive due to quality/durability. Then you have names like JP, NEmo, others that I don't know about. Quality is great I'm sure but maybe safe queen by virtue of cost? What rifles you got in mind OP?
