I will give you a $100 for the rifle, cash right now.

Or you can fix it first and get a lot more.

This shouldn't even be a question- get it fixed and then sell it unless you are willing to let it go for a fraction of what you paid.

I've bought a lot of things over the years that "just needed a little fix, a $3 part" and I got them cheap because if it really was that simple to fix, the owner would have fixed it.

In your case, it really is that simple. Send it in and get it fixed. Most people don't want to take on somebody else's problem.

I would add that S&W also sent a shipping label for warranty work

From OP's other thread, it looks like the head of one of the gas key bolts is broken/sheared.

Broken guns are worth $100 bucks at a police turn in, so if you want to sell your broken gun you might start by asking for $100 bucks.

Working guns are worth more since they are useful as things other than terrible clubs.

The only people in the market now who are willing to pay big bucks for an AR are new to the platform, and they’re not going to buy a broken one. The only people who will take a gamble on a broken AR already have one (dozen) & they have no reason to pay high prices. If you don’t want to send it in, it’s only $100 for any generic PSA-type bcg, and done: gun works again.

I'd get it fixed first. You should call again and ask if you can ship it yourself, maybe take the upper and lower apart first. They should let you ship it. If not, it's still worth your time to find a shop to do it for you. Drop it off and let them repair it, no need to rush. If they fix it for free and it works perfectly after that, then you will probably want to keep it anyway.

I didn't read all the posts, but you can just send the upper if they won't let you send the BCG by itself. Then you wouldn't need to go through an FFL.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

When the head of a gas key screw pops off like that, more often than not it’s from over torquing the screws when installing the gas key.

The torque spec is 55 inch lbs, it’s very easy to exceed that even with a hex key.

You can probably fix it with a new gas key, 2 screws a beater screwdriver and a big hammer.

Or just buy a new carrier, the bolt is probably fine.

OP, I’ll give you $350 for it and fix it for a spare, I think I have room.

And a torch and a milling machine, center drill and the proper size left hand drill bit to get the old piece of screw out...

Are people really this clueless on the guns they own? Just buy a new mil spec bcg and drop it in! And stop trying to take your gas key off.
