    First rifle purchase - DDM4 v7 Pro?

I am planning to buy my very first rifle and decided to go with DDM4 V7 Pro

Is this a good first choice in general? Would you recommend it? I figured I will ask first before I drop 2k. I don't want to build a custom AR15 considering my limited knowledge on the subject. I want something well crafted, future-proof and reliable that I can shoot right out of the box. Is there a better option in this price range that is not close to impossible to find these days?

Also, how easy is to go from "Magazine Lock System" to featureless if I decide to do so? What are pros and cons?

    Thanks!

Seems alil over priced for what you’re getting.

Why do you want a 18 inch? Curious

I would highly recommend you research the handguard heating up on the DDM4s. Something about the barrel nut and their handguard design seems to get really hot fast.

Frankly, I believe you can get an equivalent quality AR for 40-50% less than what DD charges.

No specific reason. I did not pick this model because of the barrel length. The chances of me going to shoot steel targets at 200-400 yards are far greater than using that rifle in home defense situation. I am not planing to have many rifles. Just one universal high quality 556 rifle will be all I need, at least until I get really proficient in this platform which I assume will take years.

Another option that looks very good for the money is Springfield SAINT Edge

I am in the same boat, considering either building or OTB. I was looking at these two.

This is NO "me-too" carbine. Fully Ambidextrous and ready for anyting, the POF-USA Renegade Plus embodies everything a DI rifle shoulde be!

I've had limited experience with POF, but wasn't good.

I'd recommend something like a BCM. Very good, great reputation, but not too pricey.

it's a DD. It's going to be quality. But for a first AR15, there's others that are still high quality at a lower price. even if you just go with BCM it's already $500 less. go to aero precision and you're at half the price. for some reason people consider aero a lower tier, but if you look at their products and the quality, i think they're excellent.

FYI, the V7 Pro is m-loc, the V11 Pro is keymod. The only difference between the two, but you likely know that. I got the V11 Pro.

That said, you're getting a lot of gun for the money. Besides the usual DD quality, you get their top of the line barrel and that awesome 3 gun trigger which, if you bought separately, would cost you over 250.

I wasn't concerned with the length and if your shooting out further, you should not be either. The V7/11 Pros are excellent guns. You won't be disappointed.

You will, however, need to decide on how to bastardize it based on California's stupid laws. I went featureless with Thordsen Gen III stock. If you remove the pistol grip, make sure to press out the roll pin slowly and carefully. Do NOT pound on it with anythng.

In the end, I have a very easy to use gun that while it looks a little different, allows me the use of 30 round mags, normal loading of mags, and use of a standard mag release. I'd never go the fixed mag route.

Any particular reason you selected the V7 PRO and not the standard or LW version?

Regardless of what people here will tell you, DD makes a top-tier rifle at a competitive price.

OP; ARs are crazy in the responses & "advice" they elicit.

                    Invariably, as has already happened here, AR "advice" always, always goes exactly like this;

"Hey I want to get XYZ AR for $XXX price - what do you guys think?"

                    Forum replies:

"You can build a better AR for half the price, 1/3 the price, [insert price here]"

"They're OK I guess, but overpriced. You could build for cheaper."

THEN, when you decide to embark on building an AR & start asking for advice you'll get people telling you to "buy a factory rifle because it's cheaper."

                    You literally can't win.

DD's are rock solid guns, buy it & enjoy it.

Just get ready to buy more; you can't own just one.

This is a high quality rifle. Out of the box it will shoot tight groups. A friend of mine has one and we compared it to my BCM. No comparison, Daniel Defense was a winner and my BCM is a terrific rifle. You will never be disappointed with this purchase.

DD is a great choice. That model looks good but quite competition orientated. I would recommend more of a 'standard' config. with a 13-16" barrel for a few hundred less. People reach out & touch stuff at 200-400 yards with SBR/Pistol length barrels so you won't be compromising much.

I assumed the Pro has the best trigger and potentially better components compared to the standard version. I agree that 16" barrel would be more universal and ideal for my intended use. But there is no Pro with 16" barrel. And also DDM4 V7 Pro is the only one available at Sportsman's Warehouse. I don't have the time to drive around to different FFLs. Sportsman's makes it convenient by ordering online and also I already have some reward points there from previous purchases.

If you have better ideas, let me know.

A wise choice nature boy . Daniel defense is one of the best “cheaper” high end ars.

My idea is to grab the thing NOW, before anyone else does. You won't be disappointed with it and you can always buy a different upper later. And that Geiselle trigger is simply awesome and costs about 260, as I recall, if you buy it separately.
