Yeah I've been shooting my M1A a year and I've never seen 7.62 NATO or .308 WIN for sale that was corrosive. Every box of ammo I've seen while shopping online and offline for this caliber(s) says "non-corrosive".

I just kinda assumed that no one makes corrosive ammo anymore. I would suppose form this thread that I'm wrong then?

Its been a few years, but there was some 1980's vintage French corrosive 308, and also some Chinese and Bulgarian that was floating around.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

I have to agree with the common wisdom here...I own an M1A as well as several FAL rifles. I have shot corrosive ammo through them, but I have no problem at all with dunking the rifle in hot (scalding hot, boiling hot, rend the flesh from your bones hot!) water and agitating, brushing, scrubbing, etc.

For the common guy, who may not always exercise that discipline, I would STRONGLY recommend NOT using corrosive ammo in any firearm. I can not count how many rifles I have worked on that were just not properly cleaned, and therefore broke or failed.

        Good Luck!!!

Well, to my knowledge, the only corrosive 308 ammo I have encountered was 20 or more years ago---Czech in pale green boxes---I would not know about Chinese 308 because I refuse to put ANYTHING made in China thru my expensive firearms. The Czech I know was corrosive! I would not shoot it.

Well it seems we have a consensus, I will save the corrosive for the bolt gun. And ya, the ammo is that Chinese made fake Radway Green. I just want to go shoot the gun, but not risk damaging it.
