    Colt Retro Reissue

    Hello,

I was curious as to the legality of a Retro Reissue Colt. We all know that Roberti-Roos restricts certain name banned AR-15's, but if I remember correctly a California court restricted the scope of Roberti-Roos to an extent. Essentially, would one be able to purchase a Colt m16a1 or xm177e2 that has the AR-15 roll mark, but is technically considered a different model number? This is assuming an FFL is willing to import into the state of course.

See page 2, it says Colt AR-15 (all) are banned by name. Doesn't take model # into account like the handgun roster.

Hello, that would also assume that all LE6920's are banned, even if they said M4 Carbine as the model. I suppose the major difference in those 2 instances would be the presence of the AR15 roll mark on some of the models vs the lack of a le6920 stamping on the receiver. Harrot v. County of Kings appears to reference some of those issues to an extent. However, if the model is an m16a1, even with an AR15 roll mark, technically it doesn't fall under the AR-15 model, if I remember correctly.

No, it's the roll mark. There's enough history that you won't find an FFL in CA that will deal with that reissue.

I’m impressed, they actually got the profile right on that lower.

Translating a little: pics seen of it (by whom?) are "like" that? Can we assume that the pic you showed us is just a random pic online of what this new Colt might resemble? Hard to tell from your statement.

The Colt retro reissue that the OP was referring to will have the roll marks seen in the picture. In that picture the lower clearly has "Colt AR-15" on it, which makes it banned in CA.

Can't type late night. The pic is from a distributor of the reissue rifle. Note there's no third pin hole, so it's not an original machine gun. That's why I chose that pic.

Understood. Thank you. So it also says "M16-A1". That's interesting. Not accurate (nor is the bogus "Auto" setting), but I guess for the sake of civilian usage, it doesn't matter too much what name/model stuff is said on the receiver for decoration. I wonder if the Lower will be slab sided, or have the fencing.

                      I'll take a fake.

Gotta a new Cobra and like it.

Hope they make SAA again though.

I wouldn't mind having a Reissue. Somehow having a Brownells BRN-16A1 no longer scratches the itch.

Wonder how one can go about getting a sound moderator.

You mean as in AC/Shelby Cobra? I'd almost kill to have an ERA FIA roadster clone in my driveway, to play with occasionally.

I'm lucky enough to already own a Colt SSA. And it's not a fake or a re-issue. Made in 1906. Was my dad's. He's passed so I cannot get the story of how it found it into his hands. I only know that he'd owned it since the 1950s.

And just to add to the above, I also have a Colt SP-1, which is at least something like this reproduction, though my rifle lacks the convenient captured pivot pin design of the vintage military Colts.
