Can I legally own a NIB FEG Hungarian AMD 65 (AK47) here in CA?

I saw this NIB FEG Hungarian AMD 65 (AK47) somewhere at a good price and I was wondering if it's legal to own here in California. If it is, what can I do to make it legal?

As long as the barrel length is 16"+, the overall length (w/ stock folded) is 30"+, and you have a magazine lock. The rifle would need an extended brake/fake can welded on to meet the barrel length requirements, and you would need to pin the stock open unless you have a really long fake can on there.

Yes you can own one. It's not listed by make or model as an assault weapon. The AMD-65 clone from T.G. Int. is built on an FEG SA 2000M receiver straight from Hungary. You must fix the folding stock so tha it does not fold. Then you can either add a Monster Man (non-pistol grip grip) and remove the forward grip to have detachable mags, or add a magazine lock and 10 round mag to add the pistol grips. T.G.I fixes a long muzzle brake to the end of the original short barrel to make it to a legal 16 inches.

What kind of magazines would work with the AMD 65?

I found it very difficult to angle a 30 round mag forward due to the forward pistol grip. 10-20 round mags work best...double stack 7.62x39 mags.

What he's saying is any doublestack AK mags will work, HOWEVER mags that have a length equal to that of 30rds are difficult to insert and remove due to the clearance with the front pistol grip. So you would be best to stick to 10 or 20 round length mags.

Remove or cut the front grip down and use any size magazine 10/30 or mmg 30/30.

Exactly...sorry if I wasn't clear about that. Or, if you're not too particular about the original looks of the AMD-65, then remove the forward pistol grip if you wanna have an easier time using a 10/30 mag.
