DOJ may be coming down on bullet buttons

Hey guys do not kill the messenger I am simply passing on some recent information I have been told.

I have been in recent contact lately (and frequently) with the people at the DOJ firearms.

It is in regards to this thread

I was explaing my situation to the nice person on the phone and telling them that my AR was currently equiped with a bullet button and I want to register it as an AW. First they told me I cannot remove the button becasue I would be manufacuturing an AW and only a certain level FFL can do so, and then this sentence came out of their mouth, "I hate bullet buttons, by the way just to let you know we will be coming down on them pretty soon."

I do not know what it means and I do not want to start any wild fires and who knows if it means anything. I do not know if they will ever endorse a product that will be DOJ approved or what their intentions are.

I myself have weapons equipped with bullet buttons that I cannot register as an AW so I am going to closely watch watch comes of this. Just be aware that the DOJ is aware of bullet buttons and apparently the people I recently spoke with are not fans of them.

Is there anything that can be done to present a mag lock for approval to the DOJ to get their holy endorsement?

The one thing I've learned while being on this forum is that the CA DOJ says anything.

The DOJ phone bank is not at all a source of reliable information.

First problem... you cannot register a rifle as an AW. That date is long since past.

Second problem, DOJ spouts FUD like a mini-gun spouts lead.

LEO's can still buy and recieve AWs, they just need to be registered within 90 days

The key here Jwood is that you were telling them you MADE AN AW and wanted to register it. As Hybrid points out, that is not possible and doesn't even make sense -- your gun is compliant with a BB or MMG -- why alert the state if they don't have a reason to know?

I heard DOJ saying.... "I hate guns, by the way just to let you know we will be coming down on them pretty soon."

I also heard DOJ saying... "I hate drugs, by the way just to let you know we will be coming down on them pretty soon."

I also also heard DOJ saying... "I hate ARs, by the way just to let you know we will be coming down on them pretty soon."

What are you trying to accomplish?
Many beyond your level of legal capacity tried to get BB approval letters and nobody has. The only approval I know of is the one DSA got for their FAL. Other than that, the approved stuff has been sealed magwells.

The people that answer the phones are clueless. Not too long ago I called for a simple experiment. They told me that my centerfire rifle is legal as long as the overall length is 26 inches with the collapsible stock fully extended. I asked her multiple times if she was sure if she had that right and she insisted it was accurate

                          Do you have $50k?

You can sponsor a lawyer to contact DOJ on your regards and demand an answer from DOJ.... also, for that lawyer to draft letters and contact all 58 DAs to get an opinion.

One thing the DOJ is really good for is.................nothing.

If you ask 6 different agents you'll get 6 answers, of course none will be exactly the same.

Know the laws and comply with them. The only way to change them is through the courts.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.
