So I bought a ruger 10/22. I think I was really sold on it because it had the hogue stock, harris bi pod, bill barell and a scope and it looked pretty dam cool. The previous owner told me the internals were completley stock and he had never had any problems. So I take it to the range and after almost every few rounds it will either failt to eject, miss fire, or not load the next round properly. I took the gun home and stripped it down and gave it a real good cleaning and thought that might of fixed the problem. Anyone else have problems like this? Any thoughts suggestions? Do i need to replace some parts maybe? Thanks in advance.

10/22 problems.

First thing is to try different ammo if you haven't already. My 10/22, for example, doesn't like Winchester ammo. Runs great on others.Originally posted by KestryllI want to be Princess Anastasia today because I feel prettyOriginally posted by QuarterBoreGunnerKes is really just an errand boyOriginally posted by KestryllI am NOT...anything other than a schmuck... -
There's one part you need to replace. I had the same issue with my 10/22 after putting 3000+ through it until I replaced it. After the replacement, the 10/22 will eat and eject just about any .22LR ammo I feed it.
You need to change out the extractor on the 10/22 with the EDM Extractor from Volquartsen. It'll cost you about $12 to replace.

Your ammo is the problem. Out of all the cheap bulk stuff my 10/22 only shoots the Remington golden bullets, It's been like that since the day I bought it brand new. Everything else causes the gun to act just as you describe.Originally posted by bdsmchs"Thermonuclear unicorn-killer, Cal 70mm"Comment

I upgraded to the Volquartzen extractor, and my 10/22 feeds any crap bulk ammo I can feed it.Comment

If you want to spend the money, there are a couple of 10-22 smiths who specialize in reworking the bolt assembly, inc. replacement of the extractor. They radius the bolt assembly toward the back, pin the firing pin to prvent float/wobble, even put in an improved pin. They also polish the bolt. May not be necessary, but it doesn't cost that much and it pretty much eliminates the common problems that may crop up on a 10-22.
At minimum, do the extractor upgrade and when you have the bolt out smooth any rough spots and polish it if you can. That solves alot of the potential issues.Comment

FYI the match Bull barrels will NOT feed CCI Stingers.Comment

If you don't want to swap out parts just do as other posters have said. Change the ammo. The only cheap stuff that my 10/22 likes is the Remington Golden Bullet that you can pick up at Wal-Mart.Campaign For Liberty

I'm glad this thread popped up, I was going to start one almost identical myself. I've owned my 10/22 for several years now, and its acted the same way since I bought it. It fires great for the first 150-200 rounds, and then starts to FTE about every 10 shots or so. I was guessing its because I shoot the cheapo bulk Walmart stuff (Federal, usuall) and the rifle just doesn't like to be dirty. For me, switching to more expensive ammo is not really an alternative, since most of us shoot .22 simply because of the low cost. If we have to buy spendy stuff for plinking, well, then there goes the whole idea. Will the Volq extractor help solve my issue? Is it fairly simple to install, and does it come with instructions? If so, I'll order one today.Proudly nestled all snugly and warm in Hillary's basket. She even made room for my bibles and guns!
