I'd be very suprised if you can still get Federal, Remington or Winchester 223 ammo for $200 a case of 1000. Thats stuff is at about $240-280 a case now...and that is the cheapest I've found it.

Check out this ammo price list:

I just bought 2 ammo cans of British radway green for $133 per can of 720 rds with strippers and bandolers from wideners. The next week the price went up to $150 a can.

I've never had a problem with wolf in 223 or 7.62x39......but I've heard nothing good about 308 wolf.

You can get American Eagle at $199/1000. At least you could at Del Mar. I've seen that price online too.

There's been a "run" on ammo, and the companies have learned as they raise prices, people just buy more because they panic if they don't, it'll be more next week...

Thats a good price....our last gun show had almost no ammo. They were sold out of most bulk stuff in like an hour. Hopefully it will come back down soon.....

Wolf in general is under powered and dirty anyway.

We chrono tested wolf and uly and brown bear thru my SKS and the wolf was all 100-150fps slower.

Same with the .308. SA was about 2760 and the wolf was 2500 or less sometimes, which makes no sense because they act like they are over charged. You get splitting case heads and backed out primers, but the velocitys are much below NATO spec. I have no idea why that would be the case, but its what I've observed.

I use wolf in the 9x18 for my makarov and 762x39 for the SKS, but I've had a bunch of pierced primers on the 762x39.

Interestingly enough, the wolf 762x39 ran RSSSLVRs AK flawlessly, all 40 rds no problems (and the gun was still sighted right from the Romanian army!) with my SKS it will short stroke and fail to eject with the wolf 762x39, but not with brown bear or ULY... Odd. AKs must take less gas pressure to run the action.

My take on wolf... don't shoot it, especially in .308!!

I used to use Wolf for plinking. My last trip out I had several casings get stuck in my chamber after they were fired. I knocked them out with my truck antennea so I could keep firing. My old batch had no problems, but the new batch was f-ed up. I decided to stop before any damage was done. I got home and knocked the stuck casing out to find that it swelled.

I contacted Wolf becasue they say that they give 100% guarantee. After about 10 emails back and forth I got no where. They said that they would send me a call tag to return the ammo and they would replace it for free or give me my money back. Its been one month and no call tag and no response to my emails except "WHERE DID YOU BUY IT?". This is after I had told them multiple times and emailed them a copy of the receipt. So F Wolf and their ammo and customer service. I'll go blow through this stuff should it not expand anymore. If it does it will get burried in the desert.

                Try using a telephone...

Email is not the best way. It took me exactly ONE phone call to get a call tag (which did show up) and I was able to get different ammo in trade (other calibers, etc).

I haven't actually sent it back tho, as Im trying to find the last 300rds I have stashed in my boxes in storage.

Anyway, I would CALL them. They didn't want a receipt or anything, just the lot # off the case.

Called Wolf and they said to send them the case and send my rifle back to Rich at CGW and they will pay for any repairs that need to be done. They were very nice about it and kept telling me how sorry they were about what happened.

I was not trying to jump on your back, just stating a fact.

Back to Wolf; I have never used it due to malfuntions I've seen at the range due to Wolf ammo. Having said that, I did order some Prvi Partizan (marketed by Wolf) brass case M193. It has gotten some bad reviews on ARF.com, but also many good ones. Ill report after I shoot it.

                        I was wrong.

I have used and would not mind shooting wolf ammo again out of my bolt action rifles. I keep my semi-autos on a stricked diet of brass though.

I am into my second thousand 7.62x39 Wolf ammo. My buddy is using Wolf .30 Carabine on his M1.
We are both very pleased with the ammo. No complaints what so ever.

Same thing happened to a co-worker of mine. He shot wolf ammo in his bushmaster AR. Spent case was stuck in the chamber. He tried everything to get it out. Even tried knocking it out with a dewey rod and other metal rods with a hammer, still wouldnt budge. He had to send it to Bushmaster. They got it out with a letter stateing never to use wolf ammo.

If you fire Wolf (especailly .223), you will need to use a chamber brush to scrub the chamber and barrel extension HARD. Failure to do so will result in bad case of FTE.

Reason: Wolf is steel case and does not expand like brass case to create a good chamber seal. Hot gas filled with carbon will leak into chamber and start to built up fast. Try one experiment: Fire about couple hundred round of Wolf, then follow by brass cased ammo. Your gun will jam, guaranteed because there is enough carbon built-up, and firing brass case ammo will result in brass "bite" into the built up and cause excessive friction that will either cause the extractor to skip the rim or torn the rim off.

For those who blame "new Wolf works badly", please examine your cleaning practice. Does it involve chamber brush? If not, then it's operator laziness.

On average, I can fire about 400rds w/o FTE after the gun is throughly cleaned. Also, you want to use chrome line, 5.56 NATO spec chamber. SAMMI spec .223 chamber will be too tight for Wolf.

I have fired more then 7K Wolf .223. As this is my plinking/blasting ammo, occassion FTE does not bother me (never take any range trip w/o your rod). Having a dedicated AR-15 upper for Wolf ammo only also helped. Wolf will never be my SHTF ammo unless there are nothing else left.
