Funny thing is that my primary upper is mostly BCM.
      • VLTOR MUR1A
      • BCM 16" 1-7" CL CHF barrel midlength
      • BCM KMR 13"
      • BCMGUNFIGHTER Compensator MOD 0
      • BCM Low Profile Gas Block
      • Spikes Tactical melonited gas tube
      • Spikes Tactical NiB BCG
      • Geissele Super Charging Handle

The Spikes Tactical BCG I bought because I just wanted to try a NiB BCG. I had a BCMGUNFIGHTER MOD4 charging handle, but wanted to try the Geissele. I probably should have just bought a complete BCM upper.

I have a 15" KMR (not the KMR Alpha) brand new and another new VLTOR MUR1A, which I still want to use. I need to get another BCM barrel. I've got a solid 5K on my current one and it definitely holds up to lots of summer time rapid fire.

Buy a blemished stripped upper for $80, then build the rifle to what you want with quality components in your budget. Even with some shops charging $50 for assembly you'll save money and have a better upper.

Edit: as far as charging handles go it is one of the most pointless upgrades to make. I'd only worry about it if you have already spent money upgraded every other aspect of the rifle. Why? Because quality rifles these days are so reliable you should be only pulling that handle at the beginning and end up the day, otherwise the rifle will lock open on empty. Nothing wrong with getting a fancy one if you want to spend the money though.

Respect your opinion, however I would tend to disagree. The CH is a moving part that I rely on heavily. When clearing, safety engagements, various random failures of ammo/mags/debris.

I have bent stock Milspec CH's and have even seen BCM's break. This is the ignition primer to your entire system. Without this handle you do not have a rifle, even a bolt action. I always ensure I have solid, strong durable, and in some cases ambi Charging handles.

Please read the product description carefully. A BCM KMR 10 is really a 10 and a half inch long hangaurd. I didn't read the entire paragraph and am now going through the return/exchange process.

While I agree with your reasoning I've just not had any issue with any mil spec CH, the only ones I've seen get messed up were by guys who wouldn't load the rifle with the bolt catch and release and we're always sling shotting it, which is ok to do when dealing with a malfunction, but shouldn't be used for routine loading.

A couple of years ago I got great deal on a BCM 16" LW (standard) mid-length upper for about $320. No handguard, just the triangle FSB. I love it. I don't know how it compares with the ELW barrels, but it shoots straight enough for my purpose. For a handguard I just use the Magpul MOE.

FWIW, I have it on an old Colt SP-1 lower, which is already light weight due to the no-fencing, etc. So it's my KISS lightweight rifle.
