    AR Legality Question

Forgive me in advance fellow members, but I have some questions regarding featureless rifles in CA as I am looking to purchase one...

Are the featureless aspects permanent? That is to say, are these features only required for the sale? If I buy a featureless rifle and replace the grip or remove the fin, un-pin the stock, and bring it to the range, is this illegal? (I ask because a friend who is by no means any sort of authority told me these features are only required for the transfer of the rifle, similar to how BB and airsoft guns need to have an orange tipped barrel to be sold, but it can be removed by the owner)

Next question- rifles with bullet buttons installed need to be made featureless or have the magazine lock installed prior to a sale, correct? I can't just buy a rifle that only has a bullet button?

Have any "work arounds" been created yet regarding the lower receiver needing to be separated from the upper to remove the magazine? Like how the bullet button was created to work around the needing a tool to remove the magazine law?

Thanks for your help guys, and thanks in advance for not ripping me a new one for not knowing this stuff already. I HATE California's gun laws...

-New centerfire featureless rifles need to stay featureless.

-Your BB rifle will need to be featureless or fixed magazine to transfer ownership.

Bullet buttons are a no-go for rifles obtained January of 2017 and forward.

When making a rifle "featureless" or installing a mag-lock, the physical aspects are not permanent in case you decide to move to a free state, etc.

Your friend is wrong in thinking that he can re-install evil features on a featureless rifle. Evil features can only exist on a rifle that has a mag-lock, or those that already own it in said configuration before 2017.

As far as my understanding the is featureless is having free mag but no thumbhole stock or pistol grip or muzzle device or front grip or you can lock the magazine and have said items but whatever you do the configuration must stay on the rifle at all times. You can switch configs but you cannot have both

Asked and answered (as well as can be, given the current uncertainty).
