I have the fixed leupold scout scope in Warne QD rings and am happy with the set up.

pistol scope will have too much ER and variables want your eye in a different spot as you change the magnification

This sums it up nicely
I have the Leupold on my Steyr Scout Warne QD rings
Did great in Africa with it
Taking back again this summer.
The Leupold scope has the eye relief your pal wants with that Scout mount

That rings/scope combo looks really high

There is something special about the Leupold 2.5 scout on the forward rail of an M1A scout. The scope disappears from the shooters point of view and a magnified reticle appears to float in front of you.

Allows you to have complete awareness forward surroundings while also have a small area magnified.

You could easily lower that scope height.

I have been able to run this low on my rifles
