    My First AR!!

Newbie here. Just picked up my first AR (and my second gun in total) from the shop yesterday!

Super stoked and itching to go shoot. Any words of wisdom for this newbie? Anything (aside from ammo) that I should pick up for the gun right off the bat?

Very nice. Go shoot it a lot before you do anything to it. Then get a red dot or variable scope for it. Don't go cheap. Buy a couple of cases of ammo right off, because it goes way faster than you think.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

Very nice rifle! Ammo, mags, and cleaning supplies are all I would recommend right off the bat. Go shoot it and then figure out what you want to change.

                      Dewey has a nice Kit.

                      Slip2000 for cleaning and lubrication.

What I use, everybody has their go to equipment.

                        Right away?

                        a can of CLP
                        more magazines
                        You already stated ammo.

Then, maybe a magazine holder. Even if its just a cheapy $15 six mag bandoleer.
Then, a two point sling. The cheap $15 GI slings work great! with regular or quick disconnect attachments.

eventually a cleaning kit with rod, patches, powder and copper solvents, lube, chamber brush and mop.

A can of CLP, a scraping tool, boresnake, and compressed air will get you real far though.

Oh, and a hard case to transport it in. Doesn't have to be expensive but get a hard case that is lockable. (I'm assuming you're in CA.) For next year.

                        and, welcome to Calguns!

Cleaning kit, I have the Otis one:

Grab about 2-3k rounds of decent quality ammo and a couple extra pmags and hit the range.

Learn to use your iron sights. I can't stress this enough. I was encouraged to force myself to learn iron sights before touching optics and now I'm passing that onto you. First off, it's really satisfying to shoot with irons. Secondly, the fundamentals of shooting are more obvious in my opinion with irons. Thirdly, its really really satisfying to shoot with irons. I still set aside my ACOG for a box or two through the buis every time I hit the range.

                            Have fun!

Edit: If you're going outdoor shooting and plan to keep your brass, I always use a catcher net thingy. https://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-1222...=brass+catcher

Also you to properly sight in a rifle you'll need a spotter, especially if you're at a public range where you can't walk over ever 3 shots. Just bring binoculars or something with you. You might also want to grab sandbags or think about investing in a bipod.

You have 2 firearms now.....it's time to invest in reloading equipment.
