These might just be the ticket.

P.S. I intend to get wood foregrips so an extended ha guard likely isn't an option.
Check with Ares, the complete gen2 uppers come with a low pro gas block sight. They might sell it individually, but I'm not 100% sure

I'm not a fan of the look of the railed gas block with a sight attached to it.

So the reasoning behind all this, is I would like to make a classic looking rifle out of my AR by picking up an Ares SCR lower, adding a wood stock and forearm, and making it look more like a classic iron sighted rifle.

So is there anything like what I'm looking for? Or am I SOL?
Or maybe is there an AR barrel out there with a dovetail mounted front sight?
Basically, I'm trying to create a mini 14 looking rifle but with the accuracy of my AR and ability to use AR mags.

Another thought I had would be some kind of threaded dovetail adapter. Basically a piece of metal that threads onto the end of your barrel(replacing the muzzle break) that has a dovetail cut into it so you can use regular rifle front sites.
      Does anything like that exist?
Ar sights are that tall because of the buffer tube being straight out the back of the gun and your gave resting on it.
If you wanted to lower the sights by about an inch on the rifle, you will also need to carve about an inch out of your cheek or move your eyeball about an inch lower on your head for it to fit on the rifle and let your eye see through the rear sight.

The shotgun type pushrod setup on the scr will let you get a lower cheekweld, but there will not be be any front sights that support that setup.

Strongpoint nailed it; Evo sights on a railed gas block. MP7 sights might also work; they flip up but are usable both flipped up (as aperture sight, looks a little higher than Evo's) or flipped down (as open sights, looks lower than Evo's).

        ETA: Wow they are expensive.

The link shows the low pro sights Ares came up with. This looks like it will work with your wood furniture but not sure they sell individually.

Edit: Actually reading the link I posted, doesn't look like the front sight is a gas block. Looks like it clamps on to a low pro gas block, not sure if any low pro GB will work. In the link there is another link to call or email Ares, I'm sure they can answer your question better than I.

Thanks guys. I think the evo sights with a railed gas block will be my best option, but I might contact Ares about getting their clamp on sight as well.
Ideally I'd like to keep my current upper since I'm pretty happy with it's accuracy.

My bad, didn't read closely! (Confession: My post initially suggested Evo sights as though it was a new idea, I missed both posts initially!)
