So I'm just about done building my 6.5 Grendel. After some reading, seems Hornady SST ammo is the only ammo worth feeding it. Anyway, that's fine for now (asides the $1.00/round) but once the ammo ban takes affect I'm afraid the more obscure caliber ammo will be hard to find at your LGS. Since I'm not a reloader, I guess it's going to be buy it by the truck load. Anyway, just a thought.

THERE'S A GREAT REASON TO START RELOADING.So I'm just about done building my 6.5 Grendel. After some reading, seems Hornady SST ammo is the only ammo worth feeding it. The new ammo restrictions appear to be more of a form of economic warfare. As its author said, this law only really effects white men over 50. Sounds like profiling to me.If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

You can get ammo online shipped to your local ffl, or have your LGS make a special order for you. I know Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton orders cases of a specific varmint round for a friend of mine.
But the accuracy and cost saving potential makes reloading especially attractive for the 6.5 shooter. I'm at 10% on my 6.5 build and once it is done I'll likely get back into reloading for it.Comment

Wat?! Why only SST? I got some 3/8" groups with PPU 120g HPBT. And quite frankly the steel case Wolf was just under an inch.So I'm just about done building my 6.5 Grendel. I hope the opposite is true and the obscure calibers are left on the shelf for us oddball shooters. I'm in the same boat as you OP. Just don't have enough time to get into reloading, though it sounds like the logical choice.
Oh yeah, cheap and deep and all that. Don't think I've ever regretted buying TOO MUCH ammo.Comment

At what distance? I'll have to try the PPU too.
See here in post #34 and pic post #30 http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...hlight=grendel
Yeah, I bought the SST and some cheap wolf too to make sure the rifle even works. I have yet to take it out tho. Going in a couple weeks to ASR.Last edited by lone shooter; 07-07-2016, 4:03 PM.The koolaid only works if EVERYONE drinks it - Jim JonesComment

You have almost a year and a half to buy all the ammo you want before the new registration law takes effect.
So why not set aside a set amount of $$$ each month to gradually build up your supply without breaking the bank right now?
Prices for ammo are low right now and will likely remain low for a good time. Stock up gradually and then consistently until Jan 2018.Comment

Yeah, I have all my other calibers at a good level, it's just the 6.5 since it's a new build. You have almost a year and a half to buy all the ammo you want before the new registration law takes effect.

Not sure where you live? but there maybe a reloading club in your area. Try looking in the reloading forum. Also, buy a GOOD reloading manual for starters. Google is your friend, read, read, read. It's always good to have a mentor, to pass along tips learned from experience. There are Calgunners that would love to pass on their experience.
Get to know your Caliber and Gun first. You have LOTS of time to enjoy and learn. No need to hurry. Spend some money on good off the shelf ammo first.
