    Low Weight BCG Question

If one were to purchase a low weight BCG, how should it be paired with other parts to have a properly functioning firearm? What weight for the buffer? Any changes to the buffer spring? Can this be accomplished without an adjustable gas block? If an adjustable gas block is required how is the gas typically adjusted? I'm tempted to try to run some experiments blocking the barrel at the chamber and hitting the muzzle with some compressed gas from a compressed air tank. Not sure if this would work, but it would be great to have some solid info on the subject.

I had trouble finding any definitive info on this subject and was hoping for some tips from someone who has hands on experience. Thanks in advance.

The easiest thing would to buy a quality adjustable gas block and tune your ejection pattern. If you can't get a desired 3-4:30 ejection pattern and your pattern is @ 1:00 move to a lighter buffer an/or buffer spring.

With low mass BCG you'll want to be turning gas way down. You may end up wanting to go with a lighter spring to achieve full cycling at the lower mass and less gas. It does result in a pretty "soft shooting" set up in my experience.
Not sure you'll learn anything from the compressed air experiments unless you're capable of developing 55,000-60,000 P.S.I. for any kind of simulation. Start with gas block closed and open to achieve bolt hold open on empty mag, just a tad more after that and leave it.

Had my carrier trimmed down to look like a JPLMOS, did not change the old carbine buffer and spring. I modded my FSB to an adjustable GB. When I test fired the rifle, I just started at close position, after confirming on first shot that the bolt remained closed/did not cycle, I opened up the GB 1/4 turn and my brass ejected at 4 o'clock and the bolt lock back.
I could reduced the weight of my buffer, and re-tune the GB, but since the rifle is light enough for me, I might just keep it as is, for now.

I would recommend going with a JP low mass bolt carrier and capture weight. Combine this with an adjustable gas block and you get 22 rimfire recoil. Just the gas block doesn't do much for recoil.

How low weight are you thinking?

My brother stuck an aim surplus lightweight bcg into his AR with all mil spec equipment and it ran just fine.. I think those bcgs are 8.5oz
