    Red Dot Help

I have $400 but would love to spend less if justified. What would you recommend?

I think Aimpoint T1/T2's are great, but it's a bit north of what your budget is. The cheaper alternative is the PA Advanced Microdot which also has 50k hour battery life, but made in China.

I bought one of these Bushnel red dots from amazon for less than $80.

I like it and it holds zero. No, it's not an eotech or an aimpoint, but it does the same thing. I wouldn't want to take one of these on another tour in Iraq, but for plinking at the range, it's great.

I had actually read a lot about the PA microdot here and vortex here but, if I'm correct, was for budgets under $200. I guess I was just wondering or assuming that doubling that budget would open up a lot more options. I really appreciate the feedback.

As far as the 1-6x or 1-4x scopes, I am building this rifle for home defense/SHTF purposes. Would something like that be preferable over a red dot for this situations?

Why do you want to spend $400 on a red dot?

Are you a contractor; getting ready for 12 months overseas? Do you plan to use this AR for home defense? Do you only plan to shoot it at the range? Or do you want to impress people with a name brand optic?

                    Edit: Sorry, I didn't see "HD/SHTF" above.

DVOR is running a sale on the 50,000 hour battery life holosun for $115. I just ordered one. It's for members only but is free to join. https://www.dvor.com/s/63fd77

I would recommend Primary Arms, I have a couple red dots from them that I have been using with zero issues since 2007/2008 timeframe and they are still running strong.
