Help with AR value

I'm trying to do a trade. I have an item worth 2000+ dollars being traded for a used AR plus cash.

I would like to give my counter party a fair value.

It an Aero Precision build (receivers and barrel) with a BCM bolt, Fortis hand guard rail combo and a Vortex magnified red dot.

New I compute the build to cost 1050. I offered 800. Is that a decent offer? The sellers says he has 200 rounds through it. Any advise appreciated. I want to do the trade, so within reason, I'd improve my valuation. But I don't think it's smart to value it at par wth a new Colt LE6920. I might as well turn around and buy the Colt out right.

If it's not a factory build then I wouldn't pay that much for it in this current market.

Frankenbuilds (I built two) are worth less than the sum of their parts. That's one of the reasons to buy one pre-built.

Be forewarned, the current owner may not agree and the deal may fall apart.

Yes even though I'm not in market for buying an AR, I still look at rifle for sale section a lot and Calgunners offering AR builds, even w decent parts, have been sitting there for many many months listed at around $600-$700-
There is no market for used built ARs, even decent quality ones.

If I were in the market for a new AR, I'd just spend the extra money and buy one at LGS. Funny thing is in few mos, or a year, whenever, people may be climbing over each other to buy any AR out there, that last AR run few yrs ago was crazy- remember I was at local Turners buying some Hoppes and guys running in asking for any AR they had, and there were none, I directed them to Calguns but even then used ARs were going for insane prices.

Could happen again at some point, maybe not to that extent but definitely could happen, but the non home build ones would go for the premiums- and in this current market as wel. Certainly a great time to pick up an AR- whether used of here or new in LGS- Tons of really nice used Daniel Defenses, etc for $1000-$1100. I couldn't resist and bought a slightly used DD for $1100 few mos ago off here- didn't have a 14.5" pinned so decided to get one. Very happy with it.

Brand new $600 ARs are not uncommon right now. Sure, they are Deltons and other assorted optics ready 'bage but they are out there.

Thanks guys. I will honor my offer just because I've already put it out there. According to youse guys, it's plenty generous. It's a trade so there is room for flexibility in the valuations from both sides.

From the information on here though, I decided I won't improve on it any further.

Its a fair offer. A little high but make your you function check everything. It's one thing to build it for your self and build it to perfection. Then there are others who try to build and it is "try" to build.

Some stores are selling S&W Sporters for $500-550; Deltons same; ATIs $450. Sometimes less.

You can build a nice custom for $600-900. NEW!

(Yes, if you use the highest quality parts including barrels from a short list of high price manufacturers, with drop in Giessele triggers, it can get a lot more expensive.)

Unless you are certain of the value of the parts, and that it hasn't been abused, it might be better to build/buy new in this market.

Now, if someone had a nice S&W Sporter in good shape with the nitride barrel, I would certainly pay $275 for it. Cash plus DROS. It would be a known quantity. But the problem with paying more is that I can buy a new one when it goes on sale for ~$500.

Now if we are talking black market/stolen firearm that can't be DROSed, then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Back to your original question: $800 for that $1050 gun is fine. But I can't comment on your "trade."

You'll quickly learn that every used firearm either has 50 or 200 rounds through it.

It's along the same lines as "oil was changed every 3000 miles with Mobil1 synthetic". An excellent selling point that's totally impossible to prove.

Not saying he's lying, just saying that, well, everyone says that. So take that with a grain of salt.

I, for one, would question why someone would sell a gun after so few rounds. It's like they shot 2 or 3 magazines and said "this thing sucks." I'd be more likely to buy a used gun where the seller said "lost count after 10,000 rounds, man I'm going to miss this gun." But I digress...

$800 is probably fine. It might be worth $600 or $900, but in any scenario you're not going to lose your butt on the deal.

I agree. It's not a bad deal. But he's getting the upper hand with $800.
Did he build the upper himself? That's where most issue's occur. You'll just have to take his work on the BCM bolt carrier. Hard to confirm unless it's the model that has "BCM" printed.
I can't comment on the Vortex.

+100. I gloss over builds when lurking in the market place. Dudes want to think they've built somthin real special. Factory or build your own the way you want it.
