    CA legal FAL mags

Can I send 20 rd mags and 10/20 blocks to an out of state location, have the mags blocked to 10 rds and then shipped to me?

If you already own 20 rds mags legally then why would you want to block them?

Seems easier to do it youself

10 Round magazines limiters for FAL 20 round magazines. Easily convert 20 round FAL magazines.

I don't have any 20 rd mags. I have read bad reports of DSA 10 rd mags working reliably in the DSA58. For about the same price as their 10 rounder, I can have 20 rd FAL metric mags and blocks shipped to a friend out of state where he could block the mags and then ship them to me. I just don't know if that is 100% OK

That is fine. The law says they must be modified permanently, but doesn't describe what permanently means. Though it probably means doing more than just inserting the block, for example using epoxy on the floorplate so you can't remove the block.

I think jesticearms.com still has some surplus fal 10/20s. I bought a few in the past and they work. They show some character but thats always fine

Maybe they had a bad batch, my DSA 10 rounders work just fine.

but the law already prevents me from removing the block...and therefore epoxy or anything else for that matter is redundant.

                  i know right? mind blown.

Thank you gentlemen. Great responses. I presume a rivet is as permanent as epoxy.

                        Epoxy---rivets can be removed.

can't epoxy also be removed with some effort?

                          how about welding?

Long as the mags are made to be permanently blocked, they're fine. Meaning that they can not be converted back to standard capacity without tools and significant effort.

Also, FYI...on FAL mags, you have to make sure that the space between the feed lips at the front of the mag is the correct distance apart. Some mags are too narrow and cause feeding issues without correction. I had a couple of mags that wouldn't feed.

I did some research here and elsewhere. My conclusions based on this research was that the opening between the feed lips at the front of the mag has to be .5235" to feed reliably. Once I Dremel'd the opening to .5235", the mags fed perfectly.

It would be very hard to remove a properly epoxied part especially as some of the epoxy would be on the inside of the magazine---not to say that with enough effort it couldn't be done---its hard enough to remove the mag floor plate from a FAL magazine without epoxy (hint: it takes a 2X4!)---ask me how I know!
Welding could warp the magazine due to high heat, plus destroy the finish---maybe some sort of brazing/soldering might work with someone who was good at it.
My FAL mags are going to my brother's house---WAY outside of L.A.
If you find a better solution, please let me know… Thanks.
