Or, people just need to stop crying about recoil and the need for a muzzle brake . . . the airsoft range is over there . . .

Whenever I hear someone make a comment about a guy's muzzle brake at the range, the guy with the muzzle brake always says something like, "I put it on for my wife. She didn't like the recoil." And everyone who hears him say it thinks the same thing: Yeah, sure . . . your wife couldn't handle it . . . riiiiiiiiiiight . . .

correct me if I am wrong here, but isn't the purpose of a muzzle break to reduce recoil so that you can get back on target faster for subsequent shots? not primarily to reduce it for your body handling the recoil?

That's what people tell themselves, but how often do you see the average joe at the range using his .308 for rapid fire? The guys with the muzzle brakes are almost always shooting from a bench rest, and they usually average about a round or so a minute. And they always say it's for their wives, not for saving half a second on target reacquisition.

I only shoot it without ear protection when I am hunting Wild Boar.

There really is no point in having a brake on a bolt action hunting rifle... working thr bolt will slow you down for follow up shots more than the brake can affect. Plz save ur ears and ditch it and put a flash hider or thread protector on.

I don't know if that's true, there Is air/gas passing through a decice... that can certainly create noise. Think of whistles.

Even If the sound is redirected and not amplified, it's still way louder to the shooter and especially people next to him so it most definitely does increase *perceptible*noise, which is all that matters.

              What?!?

This is truth, though. I work in a very noisy industrial environment and hearing protection is something I take very seriously. When I go to the shooting range, it's often with plugs AND earmuffs.

Even though I currently do not have any brakes on my .223's or .308's, was thinking of getting one for my longer range AR .308 just so I can track my shots- like to see the round hit the target.

Who cares if someone wants a brake or not? If it helps even a little is it not worth it? If I had one I would request a bench farther away because I understand it can be annoying to other shooters, but if not, oh well. You came to a shooting range. You should know to expect it.

I have the JP on my Rem 700. It is fantastic.

I made a brake a few months ago for my AR in 5.56. It works great due to the 30 degree port angle, but the increase in noise to the shooter, and people next to the shooter is very noticeable. The more rearward porting there is the better the brake works, however it does start to get very load compared to a standard A2 flash hider.

Hey man, my '91 Honda Civic hatchback I had in high school was FAST

                        LOL, okay, no it wasn't

Also, muzzle brakes make spotting your shots a whole lot easier.
