Hmmm 73% louder with my surefire at the end of my ar10 huh? Yup I can live with that, I'll trade extra noise for softer kick and less rise.

I've got a APA Fat B* on my Tikka T3 Tactical... glad to know I'll be the most hated shooter at the range with it.

Does loudness = effectiveness ? Yes it does!

Hey I'll tell you what the RO told me when I tried to be nice and take a bench furthest away from eveyone else. "Its a gun range if people are expecting quit and no bangs they've come to the wrong place."

Obviously, haven't you ever seen a rice rocket, slap on obnoxious exhaust and instantly you transform your stock honda/ toyota/ mitsubishi into a fully on "race" car.

It's totally worth it, depending on what you're doing. Of course if you bothered to note the context(like the rest of the articles on that site), it should be quite obvious that even on a "non-magnum caliber"(cartridge?), that there is a purpose being served by having them.

Alright, let’s get back to the PRS data. This post reviews the rifles suppressors and muzzle brakes the best precision rifle shooters were using in 2014. The data is based on a survey of the top 50 shooters in the Precision Rifle Series (PRS). The PRS tracks how top competitors place in major rifle matches ...

It's almost like there is a specific reason for muzzle devices on those bolt action rifles, that some people may event want for semiauto rifles. Hmm, I wonder what it could be...

Lol I have the APA little bastard II on my 700 in 308 and had both lanes opened on each side of me at the range last week. Saw a couple times where someone come to set up and then heard my rifle and moved.

You don't hear it much being directly behind it so I keep forgetting how loud they are. Oh well I like them.

I have a Surefire muzzle brake on my Ruger Scout 308. I like it, but yea... My rifle is so loud that when I fire it without ear protection my ears ring for an hour! This is the case for anyone to the side of my gun also.

I only shoot it without ear protection when I am hunting Wild Boar.

Please wear ear protection! Hearing loss is permanent and cumulative!

Thread title fail. Brakes do not "add" noise. They redirect it but, the overall noise coming out of the muzzle is the same with or without a brake.
