    AK47 magazine question

Does anyone on here have any experience with the Destructive Devices Industry (DDI) AK47s? If so, what magazines work best and are there any to avoid? Thanks in advance

DDI is good to go. Troy Sellers of Inrange runs the production there now. I would avoid any of the WW guns on the second hand market . All standard mil surplus mags should work. Poly mags might need fitting, but that is always the case on all guns.

I have a DDI stamped AKM, and I've tried Romanian surplus steel mags, Korean surplus steel mags, and Magpul Pmags. On my particular model (low production model), the mags have no wobble and all fit perfectly into my magwell.

I've "heard" (from the interwebz) that the Tapco 30rd mags, or 10/30 bodies, may have some fitment issues, but that's it.

Here's a pic I took for something else, but you can kind of see how the magwell is cutout on my early production model DDI stamped AK.

Crapco anything will have fitment issues. Also 10/30 mags can have issues on any gun because they don't allow enough room in the mag to compress far enough to allow it to be installed fully loaded on a closed bolt.

The DDI guns are discussed quite a bit on the AK files. They have a very good reputation.
Check back later for a witty comment.

i have some Tapco mags for my IO AK. When loaded with 10, it tends to flare a little at the feed lips, which can cause fitting issues.

I'm NEW to the AK platform and looking for specific mags that work well. How are the Magpul PMags, or should I go with something else? Unfortunately I'm limited to 10 rounders

                  pmags are good-to-go...

Tapco may need a little filing on the lips for it to fit right.

Never had a problem with them, they're readily available & cheap. I wouldn't do pushups on them but they're fine for range trips.

I'd wait for the Gen3 Pmags to be released since they'll be metal reinforced on the mag lock tang, feed lips etc or Euro mags poly mags are also a good choice.

Yes, the Gen 3 AK Pmags will be built better with metal reinforced on the front & rear of the mag body and on the locking lug, but not on the sides and still polymer feed lips.

They'll cost around $25 retail, then add the additional costs by vendors to block them for you, so expect to see them around the $28-$30 or more price range before shipping costs added in.

IMO, unless your operator status highly requires you run the metal locking lugs and reinforced mags and shoot a thousand rounds a day through your AK, you'll be just fine with the current AK Pmags that you can find from $9-$14 at most places. Add a few bucks to a vendor who can block them and you're all set. I have a couple thousand rounds through my 10/30 AK Pmags and they've been running great with no signs of wear on them.
