I have both an 8.5" Pistol and a 16" Carbine. More accurate than any of my 5.56 builds and shoots smooth. I load Hornady 150gr SP over 18.5gr A5744 and love the way it shoots. I have loaded Hornady 220gr RN over 11gr of A5744 but had some problems cycling rounds in both guns. I am guessing a can on the 8.5" barrel might add just enough pressure to cycle properly.

I just bought a property in St. George Utah... just hoping that the hearing protection act is passed so I can take the AR Pistol there and use a suppressor.

6.8 for 107-gr SMK is 1497 Ft Lbs

6.5 for 110 Sierra Pro Hunter is 1526 Ft Lbs

300 BLK 110 HPR TAC-TX is 1400 Ft Lbs (my measurements)

So yes they are harder hitting by 100 Ft Lbs, but based on the not as common 30 Remington and 220 Russian cases! So all good IMO, but the use of common reloading components still is selling me.
You didn't supply us with the powder charges. What were they?
6.8 SPC and 6.8 SPCII are different. SPCII can handle higher pressures.
Also, if Remington factory rounds were used to get the 1497 FT Lbs, you can count on them being woefully under-powered.
At this point, there are no factory cartridges made for SPCII pressures. You must reload to get great rounds.

7.62x39 and Grendel made me forget all about 300. Grendel is an excellent medium long range round.

If Grendel had been developed when the 5.56 round was we might all be shooting Grendel today instead of 5.56.

Send me a few 6.8 and 6.5 cartridges that I referenced and I will disassemble them and get you powder charge weights. I have the TAC-TX cartridges as I purchased them and just shot them through my chronograph for the measurements.

This seems as good of place as any to ask. Primary arms has a Troy 300 blk upper on sale right now (10.5 in). I was thinking about buying it since it also includes their buis. Normally I like BCM but for a fun gun it just seems so expensive. Anyone want to chime in on whether I should do Troy or BCM, or whether I should ignore both and just get 556?

Karri's Guns had an entire pistol on sale for $400. If you just want the upper it's probably less.

Here's mine. It's changed a bunch and probably will forever, I can't leave stuff alone. I didn't care for the red dot because of my astigmatism. I like the Samson rail over the Seekins. The picture with the gray bedspread is the current configuration. 2.5X Leupold Ultra lite and the K2 grip are some other changes. Just noticed I don't have a photo with the AIM NiB BCG. Good enough for now.
