For the carbine buffer, why the difference between Carbine Buffer, Heavy Carbine Buffer, Extra Heavy Carbine Buffer, etc.?
Also, Bravo Company has a stock-mounting kit with a "5-position" extension and RifleGear has one with a 6-position extension. I assume either will work with the Magpul CTR stock, but are there any pros/cons for each other than cost vs. # of stock positions? Any reason why the 5-position BCM one would be better than the RifleGear Stag offering?
Sorry for all the questions. None of the AR threads seem to go into these types of specifics, and this stuff isn't instinctive for me yet.My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

different weight buffers change the timing of the rifle depending on the length of its gas system.
here's a good explanation taken from AR15.com
"Due to the heavier weight, an H2 will further slow the cycling of the carrier as it's being blown back after a round is shot, as compared to an H or carbine buffer. Carbine length gas systems allow less time for the gas to cycle back and if your system is cycling "too fast" it can cause reliability issues. Having a short barrel like a 10.5" can further compound this potential problem. If your carrier is retarded too much in cycling, this causes shortstrokes. Also, having heavier buffers give a softer felt recoil, and in fullautos it affects rate of fire. This is why heavier buffers are considered. There isn't a definitive "if you have this setup, use this buffer" because of the different combos of parts. Bottom line, I would just get whatever you have, and if it doesn't work, go from there. I use an H buffer without issue in my carbine length 14.5 setup."
buffer weight comparison
as far as the difference between the mounting kits, as far as i know its just the amount of positions.Comment
