Do you think our government pays to ship equipment back when they abandon battlefields?

Why not? I bet they are getting plenty of ARs and spare parts and ammunition through Iraq.

Only Stinger missiles, which the CIA was buying back from the mujaheddin for $50K a pop (in cash) in the early 1990s.

If we are sending F16s for the Iraqis, just how long would it be before ISIS gets their hands on them? Hussein wants to arm them. No, not Saddam.

Yep, when the Iraqi's abandoned some of their outposts, there were plenty of M-16's available.

Any cobbled together on the fly militia uses cobbled together arms. You take what you can get.

First up, it sure looks like an AR with a mag coupler being used. Longer barrel than normal and perhaps no optic.

However, why do you use the "ISIS using AR's?" thread title. The gentleman in question is probably not from Baton Rouge, but that doesn't mean he is an ISIS member.

The reason I ask is that this image had a caption stating that this was an individual fighting against ISIS - a tribal fighter supporting pro-government forces.

If this is true - and I have no reason to doubt that it is - then the thread title is misleading at best.

I'm sure ISIS have all manner of weaponry at their disposal including American made or funded AR15/M4's. However, if you made the assumption that this specific picture confirmed this, then I believe that assumption to be incorrect.

There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men, out of necessity, are forced by circumstance to meet.

ISIS got plenty of American hardware from fleeing Iraqi troops, including M4/M16's, Humvee's, etc.

They even had our HMMWVs and light armor tanks . . . anything the Iraqi army abandoned. ISIS does not have a supply corp, they will use what ever they can get their hands on.
